GQ standard height
GQ standard height
Guys,
I am trying to see what sort of lift I have acheived with the second hand suspension that I installed last week.
Car is 1990 GQ LWB (wagon) and runs 2" body blocks and 33" MTRs.
My measurements from centre of wheel (axle) to the (lower, outside) edge of the factory black flares is 760mm rear and 740mm front. Can I please have something to compare that to? I have searched and it's not in the bible either.

GQ Safari High Roof, MANUAL, 33s, 3" lift, CD, Nardi Wheel, bullbar, rack. 2.5m of sheer intimidation...
Thanks PS.
So mine sits at 975 with that measurement. Edge of the factory flare to the bottom of a 15" rim. That means that if I minus the body lift 2" = 50mm), I get 925. That means that I am left with a height of 225mm.
That's 3mm shy of 9". WOW.
I have a 1" coil spacer in the rear to stop the coil from being loose at full suspension droop. This also helps the rear sit slightly higher than the front, with no fuel load. I will be filling it today, and I will see where it sits then.

It is quite a pig to drive at the moment, until the 7 degree castor plates go in next Monday. I will see how it is then. I am also getting the sway bar connectors lengthened to the right amount. I will leave them on the majority of the time and just remove when I am going seriously offroad.
Gotta remember that this is mainly a daily driver.

Thanks Chookman. I think it says similar in my manual, but I can't reach the roof anymore!
i might take that measurement on the weekend, and I need to remember to account for the 33" tyres too, as opposed to the standard 31s. That's minus another inch...

OK Guys,
Looking in the original owners manual, I see that with 10R15 tyres fitted to an aust delivered ST gives a total height measurement of 1800mm.
I just measured mine, and it sits at 2050mm.
So take out 50mm for the body lift, and 25mm for the extra inch of the 33" tyres (over 31s) and you get 1975mm...
Therefore I can only assume that I have a 175mm lift, which equates to 7" on the tape.
So I have a total 10" lift, but an actual spring lift of 7".
It sounds like the first measurement given by PATROLSNIFFER was inaccurate. Maybe I counted the 2" wrong in that equasion...
Andrew
(pretty satisfied with 7")

I took the 1800 from the book, but to get the measurement from my car, I had it on level ground (garage floor) and measured to the top of the roof, straight up the middle of the back of the car, past the towbar. I had a level plaved on the roof and sighted across it.
I also had the spare wheel off at the time, so I could ge closer.
Lets see what you come out at.
I am very suprised that no one here already know what a standard height is, when they all sprout on about how big their lifts are. I want accurate figures...

Mine measures just on 2,000 at the highest point with 40mm body and 315/75 R16s. I know this cos I measured it accurately so that i dont' take out my roof in these rediculously low supermarket carparks.
This is with a Dobinson HD 4" lift.
Based on the 700mm measurement from rim to flare, mine would be about 935mm - 40mm (BL) - 12mm (16" rims) - 700 = 183mm or 7.3" over standard which doesn't make sense cos there is no way it is a 7" lift.
Based on the 1800mm O/A measurement mine would be 2,000 - 50mm (tyres) - 40mm (BL) - 1800 = 110 or 4.4" lift which sounds a lot more sensible.
Mine is therefore 200mm or 8" over standard and I can tell ya it towers over my old man's stocko GQ.
I drove into the Wollongong uni car park the other day. Has a 2.05m headroom limit and I was freaking out just a little... Certainly got some funny looks from other drivers

2* - for models equipped with 10R15 tyres

Umm, does it really matter. The manual was current for the specs that my car came with. Are you saying that nissan said "ooh, we made a mistake on the height issue. We were 15mm out all along."
I think it more likely that the book might have been changed if the cars specs changed, say with the 1993 - models being slightly higher/lower, whichever the case might be.
I would still understand that when the 1990 model was released, the book that came with it was right.
Anyway, we're talkin about a 15 mm (bees dick) difference. Let's not loose the big picture here.

Are you trying to get a bite outta someone here?
I'm not saying anything... I believe you were the one that jumped to some conclusion about what I was saying.
So you have the manual relevant to your truck model / year... and therefore all the info you need to work out whether you have a 2" or 20" lift... Why can't you simply work it out rather than asking a bunch of questions to a bunch of know-it-alls that "sprout on" about their favourite past-time???

I was looking directly at the height bar at the shoppin center in dande's carpark.. By that time there was 2000 cars behind me unhappy that I was tryin to reverse out... theres no way that anything above the rego label would have stayed together...
DP, I thought you would see by the wink that I was just saying I had a that while I had a different manual to you, I thought that mine would have been correct, and I can't imagine why Nissan would have revised the height of the car. I can see however that they would have revised other things, like when they dropped the option of the electric lockers.
Anyway, I thought that somewhere on here someone would have known what the standard height of a GQ was, from the guard to the hub centre, cos that is how all places measure lifts. It never struck me to look at the overall height of the car in the manual, until it was mentioned to me.
And if you think that I am taking the mickey out of ppl on here with your final paragraph, you are very wrong.
Sorry I was misunderstood.

Nissan have revised several things from GQ1-GQ2(series 2).. when they changed to 16in wheels maybe that could have been when?
