having dunked the paj in a LARGE mud hole the other month (pics on my web site link) i have overheated the clutch and shagged the rear crank oil seal.
question is-do i have a go my self and remove the gearbox/transfer boxes or is it easier to remove the engine ?
it runs the 4m40 2.8td motor and 5 speed box.
i can get the lot done at the local mitsi dealers using genuine parts for $1300.
local 4wd mechanic using aftermarket clutch kit will be approx $1100-$1200.
aftermarket clutch kit $550, gen mitsi $800-$900
what do you all think is the best way to go ????????????????????????

I've had 2 clutches done on my 3.0 V6.
1st replacement clutch was a PBR unit which didn't last long (about 12 months) the 2nd one is a Daikin Safari Tuff clutch which is about 30% beefier than standard and seems to be holding up better.
The mechanic can unbolt the bellhousing and slide the gearbox/t-case back about 12-18" which is enough to get the old clutch out and the flywheel if it needs machining.
Both times it cost me around $650-680 fitted the clutch kits were about $350 or thereabouts. But it was cheaper for me as I leave the Paj there for the week and he worked on it when he had no other cars in the shop.
I know Daikin have released a clutch kit for the 3.5 V6 / 2.8TDI but it is just a standard replacement they may have a heavy duty version by now ?? Worthwhile checking. For many years only a factory clutch kit was available for the later models now at least there is an aftermarket kit.

have been quoted $767 for a h/d clutch kit from the aftermarket boys. not sure what brand though. will ring and find out. have finally found out that the 2.8tdi uses a NORMAL solid flywheel as oposed to a dual mass unit. all of the aftermarket suppliers were quoting that it had a dual mass flywheel. contacted mitsubishi customer service and they said solid flywheel. apparantly the clutch is a 'pull type' as oposed to the more common 'pull type', which makes it more expensive(as usual for me!!)
australian delivered = solid flywheel.
imported = dual mass
i can go get some firm quotes now.

Replaced my pull clutch in my 3.5 nl 3months ago go try a outback extreme clutch from Adelaide clutch at Torrensville SA 30% more pressure plate pressure worked great at Peake on the weekend

Thanks for that Trevor. did you change the clutch yourself? if so, was it a pain to do? if not can u recommend anybody.
how did you go about giving it a 2" lift ? looking at doing that myself when shocks are rooted.
are you in a club or just tag along?

To big a job (heavy) to do with out a hoist got a mate to do at mates rates approx 8hrs just pay the cash cause the pain you`ll go through is not worth it. Looking at clubs at the moment !!! cranked the torsion bars & new rear springs plus the the little bit of height out of the 265\75r16 tyres (next fit 285\75r16 mtr) can`t go to high wont fit under roller door 1 inch to go ,what side of town are you on Im in the north east

yeh will get somebody to do it. your mates not interested is he ?
had a look at my torsion bars and they are fully adjusted, with the suspension at normal height. how would i crank them more? can you index them round to get more adjustment?
ive also been looking at clubs for a while, havent decided yet. im down at Happy Valley.

G'evening, I've cranked the std torsion bars on my Paj two splines to acheive the required height. The father in laws Triton only need one spline to get the right height. Very easy to do. Use plenty of grease to lube the splines and lever pivots. Clean the levers and the torsion bars well; this way you should be able to see the factory white paint markings which will help you to gauge the number of splines you have moved.

Cookie just done the clutch on my nk 3.5l myself in a normal house shed, took me 5 hrs to get it all unbolted & flywheel off for machining, 9hrs to put it all back together again. I put in an extreme outback heavy duty kit was $810 for kit $7 for spigot bearing $35 flywheel machining. I was quoted $500 for fitting on top of kit. Only real hassel was realigning gearbox for fitment & the top two bolts that mount the gearbox to engine hard to get at. I was able to slide the gearbox back far enough to get the new clutch in with the clutch aligning tool on (its the tool that you assemble the clutch to pressure plate off the car). Trevor the extreme outback kit is quoted at 15% higher over standard.
