4-1 and 4-2-1 describe the layout of the extractors. A 4-1 has 4 pipes (1 of each exhaust port) that run into one pipe. A 4-2-1 has 4 pipes (of the exhaust ports) that run into 2 pipes then into 1 pipe. THe 4-1 setup geives better top end, while a 4-2-1 setup gives better midrange, so is better for the majority of 4 wheeling.
