80 series automatic question?

Post by Kra_z »

Gday just would like a little bit of advise

I test drove a 80 series, 4.5l pet automatic, its immaculate inside been serviced reguarly, but when driving the car each time it went up a gear it kinda jerks as it changing does not feel very smooth, it feels more obvious when I put it in 4wd is this a major problem or is it something that wont cost me much to fix. I asked the bloke selling the car he said that all the auto 80series do it. ur advise will be greatly much appreciated

More than likely going to be the transmissions throttle pressure cable being set to tight. Adjust it to 1mm between the tip of the outer cable and the small crushed collet that is on the inner cable. You will need to slip the orange rubber boat of the top of the cable to see what you are doing. See how that goes.

There are a couple of different trannies in the t/d auto, yours mihght be an a442, or 440, depending on whether it has an economy switch on the dash. I own a petrol auto aswell, and it is smoth to change either fethering it or scolding it...no harshness at all.
Sounds like Rodney is on the right track...i would bargain him down 2k and then adjust it up properly...that way, you could save 2k or u could use it getting a deposit on a new tranny.
