does anyone do after market gears for the rodeo or mu (larger diff) i have made a few phone calls and asked about dana 50 gears and regearing the rodeo but no one knows for sure what will fit what.
my understanding is that 4.55 is as high as you can get, although i have to have a look and see what the 4jx1t jackaroo has (pretty sure they are 4.3)
I was hoping to get something up around the 5+ ratio before fitting my rear locker.

There is a 5.38:1 set put out by Tera products.

It should have the Isuzu 12 bolt diff in it if it's the same as MU diff and here is the 5.38's for it

a motorsport shop on the sunshine coast that builds race cars. apparantly peter brock has a gen3 powered R9 and is fitting a complete NM pajero IRS to it. About 3 months ago i sold them the rear suspension and thought that i would give them a call to see if they could be any help.

As i am new to this group could you please help with a couple of questions? looking to run 33's on a 98td jackaroo. I have been lead to believe the front diff is a 10 bolt and the rear a 12. standard ratios are 4.53 will the 4.77 (off a wide track) be a sufficent change to notice the tyre size? the car does get used for towing (2.5 to 3 ton) regularly and dont want to lose the towing ability. thanks for you help.

According to this table a setup with 33s and 4.56:1 diff ratio would be pretty good for towing. Yarno has this combination on his MU. How do you find the MU on highways and for towing Yarn?

Yeah it's ok with 33 on but I do notice the power loss, but I only have the 2.8 TD. I'd be trying to get more power outa my engine before I'd tow 2-3 ton.
If I still had standard diffs and was going to change the ratio I would go for the 5.38 as this will leave room later on if you go bigger...
But if thats as big as you want to go, just try it and do the diff later if ya think its to bad, wether its 4.77 to come back to standard or 5.38 if you plan on doing some rock hopping or go even larger...

I was sure that all 2nd gen Jackaroos (92+) have 4.3:1 for the petrol manual trans and 4.56:1 for petrol auto and all diesels. This is confirmed by my owners manual anyway...

thanks for the ideas and info on the ratios. i checked with a wrecker and he was pretty sure widetracks came with 4.77s but to be sure hes going to pull apart a 03 model today to check for me. in the meantime i think ill run my 265 75s during the week and for towing and my 285s on the weekend. thanks again for your help. as a matter of interest how kms are people getting out of the 3.0 diesel?
