G60-disk brakes-drag link problem

Post by tbjaus2000 »

I have a g60 patrol with 308. It has MQ swivels and hub assemblies for the disc brakes. The effect of these is that they increase the Trak by an inch of so both sides. Therefore when the existing drag link is moved across with the increase in trak, the center point of the wheels doesn’t line up with the center point of the steering box. IE. increased trak makes drag link to short. I’m sure other people have had this problem. Unfortunately, all the aftermarket drag links as far as I am aware, use tie rod end type bolt connections. As G60s use a ball and socket, these drag links don’t work. Does anyone have an answer, or clue???

have you looked at using an MQ pitman arm on the steering box? or even an MQ box? if that would work for you, it'd be easy to make up a drag link to suit.

out of curiosity, what CV's and inner axles are you using?

Is it possible to remove Pitman arm and rotate a round to when box in centre to line up with drag link?

Can't move the pitman arm because they have these lugs on them, only fits in one of 4 positions ie. 1/4 turns. An MQ pitman arm may fit, haven't had a look yet, but to buy one will cost at least $100. I have had a quote to make the existing drag link extendable using the same system as tie rod ends with reverse threads a sleeve and locking nuts.

The Inner axles: The CV's (birfield joints) i think are MQ and the stub axles i think are G60. The inner axle seals were original, and all the outer hubs seals are MQ. Either way, they slide right in..... The birfield joint and stub axles originally are one piece held by circlips, these have been busted off. Thats why i think the inner axles are g60 to get the same length, and then they have used outer CVs from an MQ. Could be the other way around. Could even be an entire MQ axles? Unless someone gave me diameters and lengths of an MQ i can't tell you exactly.

Thanks for the replys guys. If anyone has an MQ pitman arm i could at least try and see if it fits i would be grateful. cheers. T
