Whats the go with 80 series front axle in a lux ?

I could fit the whole assembly but its bloody wide !

Can you transplant the Knuckles / CV's from the 80 on to a Lux housing - what axles do you use ??

How much bigger / stronger is the CV and/or Axle ?

Can you get Hi-Steer for the 80 ?

Go with the new 30spline Cromo Longfields. I think this would be a cheaper and easier option if you are breaking Hilux CVs regularly.

I can get an 80 front axle complete for under $1000.

When are the new Longs available, probably going to be $1200 landed over here... Have you seen any feedback from anybody who has actually abused them on the trail ??

As far as i know there are only 2 sets officially out there being abused with good results so far.

But you only need to look at what they are made of they realy have to be able to do the job.

Apparently only around 2 weeks before they will be released to the public but i imagine there will still be a wait on them as i think a lot of people allready have them on order.

I would have ordered a set for my Buggie by now only i hurt the auto at the last XRCC so need some extra $$ to fix it first.

I regularly bust 80 series CV's (in an 80 series) and like RUFF says it is nearly always the star that goes. I agree with Ruff, go the new Long gear. At least you know it will do the job straight up. With the 80 series stuff you will be looking for stronger CV's in no time and it will likely cost you more in the LONG run. A lesson I learnt in building up my lux is "Do it right the first time"

Hey Mike I was talking to me engineer a couple of days ago and we were decussing the idea of shrinking 4150 bands onto the standard CV pots.
That night I put the 5.29 diff in and was looking at the CV pot, and there doesn't seem to be any room to make the pot bigger.
Howed you get the ones you got made to fit?

The welded ring is on the end of the bell, it only makes the CV a bit longer not fatter. This stops the outer edge of the bell from cracking and splitting.

I'd probably give the 80 axle a go except it won't take my Hi-Steer arms and I dont want to re-design the whole front end again. I was shown an 80 CV from a 94 model and its supposed to be bigger than the early 80. Looked like it was 30 spline into the CV as well ?? anyone confirm this ??
Does the early one have 27 spline into the CV ??

Looks like the new Longs will be the best option, just need to wait until they are available.
