Jack McNamara Air lockers
Has anyone bought or used one of these air lockers. Just after some feed back as to performance and life expectancy. How do they compare to the ARB equivalent?
Thanks
Thanks

what makes them better than the ARB's?
AFAIK - they have a better design that is far less prone to compressed air leaks than the ARB. You can also get two different types - compressed air operated (like ARB) or engine vacuum (or low pressure air) operated, like the Maxi-Drive rover lockers.
Knowing JM's other stuff, they are probably stronger than ARB's too - not that ARB's usually have any problems.

They certainly have great products - I went with their axles, but decided to stick with ARBs because I'm 1/2 way around the world and need something "commercially available".

Jac Mac locker has a one piece cross shaft instead of ARB 3 piece cross shaft. Jac Mac doesent have the rotating o-ring seal. Jac Mac doesent have the dinky plastic thing actuating the locker mecanism. Jac Mac has proper sized bolts holding the hemisphere together (instead of ARBs very small bolts that are smal because they are on the outside of the dinky plastic thing) That being said ARB are very bloody good and are a world wide product.
Probably the best user benefit is that the Jac Mac locker gives you an indication light that actually tells you if te locker is in or out (as opposed to ARBs where there is no tell tail and you always wonder if its really in or really out)

JM more expensive.
$1300 for the air operated plus you need a comp.
and I think the vacume one is the same.
Sam has covered the differences.
Nothing wrong with the arb I just believe the JM is a better design and far stronger.

I thought ARB were around the same price as that???
I am perfectly happy with my Maxi Drive locker, the only disadvantage is you can't increase the axle size above 24 spline.

I dont know. Mal Story (from maxi drive) once told me that ARB's were cheaper in the US than in OZ - so he couldn't sell his lockers there (but sells lots of axles to people who buy ARB's). He knew people who bought their ARB's in the US and brought them beck in hand luggage.

1st ARB I bought (2000) was at 544 USD shipped to my place which I carried as hand luggage to Lebanon
2nd was in Lebanon at 600USD
3rd & 4th were the above two in June this year in Lebanon...
Weird...

DiscoDino wrote:I got my dual ARBs for 960 each (AUST conversion) - why is it more expensive in the country of origin?
My guess is a combination of tax, wages and expectations.
Everything in Australia is expensive.
For example, a lock-right only costs about $AUD3-400 if you buy it in the US but for some reason it costs about $700 here. I can't imagine it costing $300 to ship it here .
