Can't help you with looking at it but I can tell you I ended up doing the same as you, bought a car in Sydney because they were so much cheaper than here in Brisbane.
I'm still glad I did it.

So you mean to tell me i drove all that way out there, crawled all over a bloody Nissan, kicked the tyres, cranked the engine, did a compression test, took it for a spin, lifted the carpet, pulled the door trim off, got my pants dirty lying underneath it --- then got home late to twenty questions from the handbrake and a cold dinner
