2" lift and tryres I can get away with....

Post by up2nogood »

Hey folks, bought a Discovery a few months ago and need to lift it 2inches over standard.
Some of you have been talking about Dobinson springs (which I had not previously heard of) as well as a few others.
Who makes the best spring and shock combinations? Where is the best spot to get them from?

My next query is that with this done, what are the largest tyres I can put under it without going body lift and without scrubbing the hell out of the tyres? She sure as hell needs some wider ones, I've got the factory ice skates on it now....

Ok, now that you've changed the font I might answer the question for you. :D

For a 2 inch lift, I'd look at using OME springs. There are plenty of other options out there and its all personal preference.
For shocks, bilsteins and koni's are good although my preference is with the Koni's. Alternatively, just go to your local ARB or TJM and buy a system off the shelf, it may not be the best out there but is quite simple and for most people will do the job.

With a 2 inch lift, I think the largest tyre you can go without scrubbing is around the 31 inch mark.

Good stuff! Do you know the model no of the Koni's that will be perfect with the 2" lift?

I have a 2" lift in my Disco with 33" Mongrels.... works real well Just move the "Z" part of your rear mud flaps back 1" using a spacer and you will have no rubbing :)

Didn't have to chop the guards or do body lift to squeeze 'em in?

Sorri ... forgot to mention ..... yep Rangy Spares flares with the 2" body lift and it all fits in well. I've taken off the sway bars and am going to run slotted bushes soon so we'll see how that all runs. Will keep you posted.

The Rangy Spares flares require you cut the wheel arches to fit them.

a 2" bodylift and flares is often the better option if all you want to do is fit larger tyres and are happy with the way the suspension performs...
if not rangie spares have a huge range of springs... and also in my opinion the konis over the bilsteins

I've heard some good things about Rangie Spares in Vic. Do we have a Sydney equivalent I wonder?

On my Rangie I have a 25mm body lift with around a 40mm lift and 235/85R16 Goodyear Mt/r's on board. This system works well, do get some inner guard rub on occasions, but at least I know my suspension is flexing

If you cut the guards, there plenty of room to fit someting decent.

hahah thats ok

As for the question agree with most on here we use Bilstein(find koni's abit too firm) and either Rangie Spares springs or Lovells depends what your after.

And thanks Bushy :D
