Bundera Diffs

Post by BUNDERA »

Just a quick question, what sort of diffs would be fitted to my stock bundy which has the 22r engine g52f gearbox. I want to get a lsd for the rear and I need to know what will fit (bolt on!! )

(no booty fab thanks bj :D ).

Once I know I will put a post on the wanted page.

Cheers,
Nick

Bahahaha, so you're the guy that was asking about this on snake, i was wondering when you'd wake up and get out to thsi forum

LSD from any hilux will bolt into the rear

better off getting a locker ;) LSD and you'll have to match your gears, 4.56 or 4.3 you are right now, id guess 4.3!

Be patient young whippersnapper

get a rear LSD from a 90's model non-import 4runner, 2.8 diesel (i know 4 runners were not imported, but i thought i should make this point clear)

Sorry to dissapoint BJ but i never posted anything like this on snake (is it dead on their or what!!). I only thought of putting a lsd in it today as I am having very regular difficulty with x axeling and cant afford a locker for the rear (almost got enough for front locker).

So bahahahaha back at ya my fellow 4 wheela :finger:

Is it in good order or does it need work done to it ?

Will it go straight in to my standard diffs?

If so I am highly interested.

i'm talking about just the LSD centre no crown wheel or pinion, u should have LSD standard in your Bundy. Is it an LX? does it have power steer?
Electric anything?

Yeah I have power steering, airconditioning all as standard but no electric windows/mirrors. Yeah it has a LX badge, but all of the ones I have seen do. Would i have to rip the rear diff apart to find out, or is there another way of checking.

Becuase at the moment it is seems to be just an open diff, never seen both rear wheels spinning when bogged/slippery stuff..

I have just ripped the diff out of my bundy, Bundytime was right it is a 4.5 but how can I tell if it is a lsd or not, I now this is basic to most of you but i wouldn't have a clue.

I know I should be able to see clutch packs or something inside the differential case but I am too scared to pull it apart, might stuff up the alignment of things.

I have some pictures here so i will post em up but as you will see I haven't pulled apart nothing!!!

Ohh one last thing, I can see some sort of metal plate in either side of the differential case that has squares on it???

You probably wont be able to tell from these general photos but it is worth ago.

TAZILY, yeah from what people have said on other threads, hilux lsd are sh*t.

Nick

Yep thats an LSD it must need a new set of clutches and re-machining if its not working. Not that they ever work well anyway.

Tyres are near new and will only be used for on road driving. I have a set of 38.5/16/15 Bias Claws for offroad.

Yeah it has a sticker stuck on the back of the diff except it has no writing (so old).

I put it all back in about 5 minutes ago and will test it later this evening to see if it is any better.

Thank you all for your help.

diffs

Post by dumbdunce »

the diff code number on the firewall plate tells you if the diff is LSD or not - the last digit will tell you.

2 - 2 spider open diff
3 - LSD
4 - locking diff
5 - 4 spider LSD

(the first letter in the code tells the diameter of the ring gear, the next 2 digits are the ratio code)

from the pic it looks like a stocker LSD, you can increase the effectiveness of the limited slip clutches by shimming the preload spring, this is at the expense of the life of the clutches. also make sure you use LSD oil, it has addetives that help the clutches stick together. I bet you get sick of the LSD pretty quickly and buy a locker ;)
