i want to put some manual front hubs on ht paj i know that arb sell the AVM hubs bit i have heard there not that flash
will some of the other model pajs have manual hubs that i might be able to find at the wreckers

yeah I'm wanting to do this conversion soon too.

Earlier model's Gen I (NA - NG) I think have manual hubs as do Tritons. I believe they will all fit our Paj's. Do a search this topic has come up before in other threads.

Did a conversion last night - put some AVM hubs on. Took the car out for a bit of a kick around straight afterwards and they worked perfectly.

If you are doing it, the dismantling is easy, you just need to make sure you have new sir clips, because you have to take the old ones off to remove the main outer casing on the hub.

This is for an NG pajero here are the steps I took:

1. Undo Dust Seal - they have 'auto hubs' written on them.
2. Undo 6 main bolts - the hub outer casing should now rotate freely, but not come off.
3. Remove sir clips from the shaft - you may have to manually push the drive shafts outwards to get ahold of it. It sits in a small groove. Get that out and the hub casing comes straight off.
4. Put the AVM casing on - redo the 6 main bolts
5. Push drive shafts outwards and put on new sir clips, ensure that they sit in the groove
6. Put on the outer hub casing (where the switch is) and attach with the 6 smaller bolts
7. Jack up front end of car and lock into 4x4 position, spin to see if engaging

You should be ready to roll.....

Don't know if the newer Pajeros are similar in setup, so you'll probably want to consult a manual first.

I checked heaps of places in Melbourne for second hand hubs - there don't seem to be any around. ARB has them in stock though.

well I have been considering it to reduce CV and CV Boot wear plus diff wear. (especially with the torsions cranked) and should make a very slight power/economy difference too with less to add friction.

Others might have more ideas too.

I've been runin a BOC lok for yrs with no worries, other than reversing that bit to 'unlock'. :D
All i can think of is 'if ur in a tight corner just unlock the manual hubs so as not to do a 20 point turn'. This about it :?:

Also allows you to isolate a front wheel if you damage a cv and continue in 3WD.

And allows 2wd low for backing a heavy trailer ,on a hard surface.
in tight situations.

i want to do this coversion
to save cv and boot wear , because of having my torsion bars cranked and if i am unluckey enough to blow a cv i can just unlock the hub

Another reason:

many years ago my folks had a freind over from Japan who brought his 4X4 along (yes, from Japan), it had auto locking hubs. It was a Toyota SWB landcruiser.

They went on a trip to some hill and whilst descending the hill in 4x4 the auto hubs unlocked and they lost traction and the car rolled over.

Now, I don't know if this was due to a fault in the hubs or what.

But I'll be changing mine too when I get the chance. Maybe it's because I'm a control freak, but it's like having an auto transmission in a 4x4. It's just wrong!

I see your point about control, but actually auto's are better at all things 4x4 except steep descents. Even then they can be tricked up to handle them aswell.

i have just done my hubs,got them while on holidays on the gold coast for $60.00 was quoted $95.00 EACH down here in sydney.
