G-day all, Me a potential looker at further developing an interests in Suzuki sierra of the yr of (95) models. Me someone who wants a vehicle that is capable off moderate off roading( This is common tracks that lets say don't need lockers) but is also good for sand, mud and touring.
at this stage I am not sure what mods to in the future perform. Personally I want to run 33's (find these offer a good size but wide track). In terms of suspension these are all question marks ??. 2 suspension lift, 2 inch shackle and perhaps a body lift to clear the 33's. This is my thoughts with no further research yet done. Yet as this is a zook forum I know some would have done these mods. And also can someone guide me in generally how zooks perform off road, toruing etc and what are good and bad thing, e.g fuel, power, braking and all that. Pics, comments all welcomed!. Also pricing of mods and essentials problems or adjustments that need to be looked at when bumping a zook up!!!

The first thing you need to do is use and abuse the search button,
Some peeps here are clearing 33's with a SPOA others are clearing 34, 35's & 36's still SPUA but with a body lift and cutting.
Where are you located??
Is the zook goind to be a daily driver??
If your planning 33's you will want a locker though (eventually)

I don't mean like extensive touring and yes re locker would eventually come but I want something that can go the distance! FOr example my 40 series which is bigger then like 90% of all vehcle on road won't go long distances. My question will a zook cope??

yeah since im losing my license for a few years, i'm going to sell the expensive hilux and buy a cheap zook sierra (about 2 to 5 grand) and throw some 33"s on it and have a cheap little thrasher.
my questions:
(1.) Why does everyone have rockhoppers on sierras?
(2.) Will i clear 33's with 2" BL and 2" SL
(3.) Step up from my 2.8 diesel hilux, or step down?
(4.) engine conversions / power ups (turbo's, 1.6 vit engines etc)
about a $10K budget

^^ about this, i also wanna put my UHF and big stereo in it, but its going to be a soft top, and i plan on rarely putting the top on unless its pissing down with rain. is there any way to secure this stuff in? maybe like a faux panel in the glove box for the headunit with good speakers / sub in a locked box bolted down in the back. i havent seen a zook up close, so i have no idea as to the size of the boot. (its probably tiny) thanks for the input peeps.

Why does everyone put rockhoppers on Zooks?
Simply.. .changing tyres on a hilut to 33" gives about a 6-10% difference in gearing from stock (depending on what model hilux you start with). Putting 33"s on a zook is a change in tyre size of over 25% so it's a long way out of where the facrory intended the car to be.
with the smaller motor (1.3) it's too much of a change to cope with.
2" suspension and 2" body lift probably will not clear the 33"s unless you're prepared to alter the panelwork - cutting and bashing. Not a great thing to do on a late model car normally.
No reason you can't jack it up a little more with extended shackles or 3" spring lift though.
Yeah you can turbo the sierra, supercharge it, Vitara carby, Vitara 16V EFI, Corolla 4agze supercharge it etc....
Is it gonna be better than your hilux? That's a tough question. Better depends on intended use and what you are prepared to trade off..... Zooks are lots of fun and cheap to play with, but being small they're not renowned for being the worlds most comfortable vehicle. If you want a weekend toy it'll be great. A daily driver with that sorta spec may not be as much fun.
yeah, it will be my daily driver. so if i get 33's i pretty much need s3's. i dont mind doing a bit of panel work as well as the 2" BL and 2" SL to fit the tyres in the arches.
i will have to look into the engine side of things, because im used to no power from my hilux, but this truck i was hoping for a bit more. any ideas about prices for a turbo kit for the 1.3L?
I dont mind about the uncomftoble ride, i just hope i can put my stereo and UHF in it safely.

You can buy marine grade stereos that you can damn near wash in a bucket.
If you want hose out practicality it's worth considering.... I once had an "experience" with washing my car out a little too vigourously and the cd player wasn't my friend for a few days.
I guess I was lucky as I know plenty of people who have killed them completely that way.

ooh, no, i have sent my speakers / sub / amp / headunit swinning many times in my hilux, and thankfully it still works.
i was more concerned about the theft side of things. is their any way of securing down / hiding the headunit from prying eyes? i also have a good UHF to put in it too which i want to have secured.

The speakers in the back should be okay. Have a search for skippy and you will find a link that shows how to build a hard cover for a zook similar to a holden ute. This should hide the subs away from preying eye’s. Also this should give you a good centre of gravity by keeping heavy things low!
The head unit will fit in the glove box or you could by a remote stacker with the very small control’s that hide up front. I got split’s in the front foot wells, but be sure to use plastic on the back of them when installing. The tweeter is cut flush in the dash and nobody notices them.
A small amp will fit under the glove box and tucks up out of site if you attach it to the cross member, this should be used for the front splits. Rear amp will have to go under the rear cover or front seats.
After this you will then be looking for space when camping, but it’s most probably worth it if you don’t like the sound of a S3 and mudders on the road.

some times pretty load, take into consideration without carpet and stick boots everything is quite loud
