i had them on my lux and they were excellent, the HID or XGT's r better but a fair bit more expensive also, i was spewin wen i made my new tibe bar with the stinger i cant fit them onto it so i had 2 get rid of them and settle 4 some 170
s but they r still very good, i think the lightforce r the best lights by far.....

Yes, i brought a set of Lightforce 170's of Jamie Way (fourwheelin) and they are great!

He has a set of 240's on his 80 series cruiser and they work like a champ!

They great thing about them is that you can buy the adjustable ones and set them up to how you like them!

Better still is you can get different color and type of filters that just clip onto the front, (spot, combo and spread. Clear, yellow, orange, red, green, blue, crystal blue and black).

I have 240s on the front of my lux and they are the best lights I have used by far.
I have tried a pair of narvas (crap!!! but were cheap).
Then I had had 3 Hella rallye 1000s (OK but didnt have good spread and having 3 drew a fair bit of alt power)
But then I went with the 2 240 lightforces and they crapped all over the others.
I also have found that the clear "combo" covers work well. They give a nice spread beam out to the sides of the road while still keeping a fair bit of distance illuminated.
If the XGTs had been out when I bought mine I probably would have went with them they have a stronger housing and look a bit more bling and if I won lotto i would be getting some 240 HIDS!!!

Can anyone say for sure if xgt gives better lighting performance than 240 with the same bulbs and given everything else is the same eg actual voltage at the bulb? I've been told they are the same.

XGT looks to be a better housing, but it requires more space than a 240.

A mate of mine has 170's on his 75 ute. I only have supercheap specials on my rig and was thinking of going lightforce. He told me that his were superb when new but after a short period of time the reflectors have faided considerably and he is now think of going back to hella 4000's as the lf's aren't anywhere near as bright as they were when new. He is the first person that I've heard who does not rate them at all but they might have been just a bodgy set. He tried returning them but they wouldn't accept them without a receipt.

I have an older set of Cibie Oscars (pencil beam) on the GQ. In conjuction with the standard high beam they provide good long distance light.

But if the $$$ were available I would have a set of LF's

has he contacted LF, they have BRILLIANT warranty service. Ask Turps.. If I remember, his 240s were replaced at complete cost to LF... freight and all.

i got a set of IPF's i baught off here,

my brother also has a set of these (why i baught them) and they dont seem to bad, although i doubt i would pay retail for them. ($360 RRP?)

the set i have are both driving lights (flood type) and they do really light up the area 50-100 metres infront of you fairly well. however i wish i did have a pencil beam for the long range stuff, so i can see those roo's nice and early!

i got a set of 170s, and the crap allover the narva's i used to have. also got the full dispersion covers (looks kinda like sand-blasted plastic), which is unreal for nite runs - there's no single spot, the beam is completely spread, get almost perfect 180* illumination can take them off, or just run one if i want to light up a few hundred metre's down the road for normal driving.

not sure if they make them for the 240s tho

i took the IPF of my dads prado b4 he sold it, and there are good but not worth the retail price. I hit a roo and the bolt pulled thru, but a hammer fixed it. tough and reliable so i have no complaints

Nope you cant have lights on the roof, or above the bonnet on a bullbar.

as for above roof, no idea with nsw, but qld has recently relaxed its regulations, and im pretty sure any lights on the roof is fine so long as they are spaced correctly

Nope you cant have lights on the roof, or above the bonnet on a bullbar.

i was told recently by a qld transport inspector that this had changed and the lights on roof etc are now legal. will try to find out the actual rules.

VICTORIANS

A quick call to Kev Williams the Vicroads engineer.

1) Dropping from 6-4in lift.
Since I lowered my car from 6in to 4in technically it should be re-engineered, but he worry if you get hassled. My arguement is that its closer to stock, so should not be an issue, i thougth it would be engineered UPTO 6inch, and all points inbetween.

2) Getting Engineers for upgrading to 35's
"now almost impossible". His words, and he stopped there, wasnt interested in discussing it..

3) Spotties on bullbar/roof
There are 2 rules on this.

a) Object (light, ariels etc) Can not block the vision of the driver in normal seated position for an object 3mtrs infront of car. What that object is he couldnt tell me. This is known as the Angle of Visibility Requirement.

BUT there is a more dominant rule now.

b) Spotlights CANNOT be higher than OEM headlights in vehicle.
Now, that can be dodgey with some of the OEM headlights not exactly being high up if you have a bullbar...

Yep I had great service from them and I didnt have a receipt, just emailed there customer service off there WWW.lightforce.com.au and went from there. Turn around time was just over a week.
The problem with mine was the reflector went dull (looked like it had gone all smoky, like a globe had blown). They where replaced at the there expense (which they offered, I didnt ask for it). So try contacting them direct before tossing them in the bin.
