Headlight upgrade for GQ
Headlight upgrade for GQ
Hi Everyone
Blown one of my GQ head lights last week. Price from Nissan to replace $150. You got to be joking, a Dolphin torch throws more light than standard GQ headlights. Thinking of doing the Narva headlight upgrade can get 2 headlights for $120. Has anyone done this conversion , do you need to upgrade the standard wiring? Heard you need to , or risk burn out of wiring. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I've got Narva conversion, stock wiring, never had a problem, was recommeded and installed by my mechanic. Do lots of night driving and it made it a different vehicle to drive at night, definately worth doing, I would follow what Bazzle suggested and get the upgraded loom from ARB and plug the driving lights straight in too.
On a GQ comp truck I help build a compete in, we changed back to sealed beams, so as the globes wouldnt blow. The light wasn't as good but the spotties made up for it. Now a days it seems to be a common thing for halogen globes to blow after water crossings, so this is a good thing available for GQ's.
80 series, Locked both ends, Q78ed & a massive 57 k/w to boot!!!!

tried the narve inserts but filled them in a water crossing and the silver lining washed off...
went back to cheap sealed beams until i found another set of halogen sealed beams at the wreckers for 10 bucks
also tried brighter bulbs but the vibration on rough roads kept breaking them [90/140's]

Slow arvo at work, so went and sussed out the ARB, dribbled over a few other things, but ended up walkin with a loom (the visa wouldnt load up 2 lockers )
Easy as to fit, took 15 mins, few plugs, full instructions, only need to drill 1 hole for the relay box (3 relays) and use one current hole thats there.
I also fitted 2 x 80/130 globes from K-Mart, so hard to tell the exact result, but now I can actually see the light on the road compared to before!
Well worth the coin!

ouch 100 low beams on a lifted truck would make u popular at the lights!
they are not that bad on the open road, i do not get many flashes at all, its mainly a lights, drive thru's and things, where you get the tough guy blokes gettin out, yellin at ya to turn off the high beams, i imediatly turn the switch to the 4 spotties off and hit the high beams and yell back, they arnt on,
