Warn XD9000 brake giving up ??
Hey All,
My XD9000's brake seems to be slipping a bit with a decent load on it... Im guessing that it shouldnt really do that, and wondering if anyone knows the fix to this ? Is there like a brake 'shoe' i need to replace ? Or has it stripped some gears or something ?
Thanks Guys,

Hey
I ve had Warn XD 9000 for a quite a while and went through some problems.
I would check the coils and the electric wires, had a burnt coil couple days ago i had to replace and cleaned all wires.
I also had at one point gear slip ouof position due an weight overload you only have the take the gears out and put them back in place.
Make sure you add grease to them.
How is the slippage occuring on the winding when you stos the calbe slip a bit?

No I would say check the coils(relay) there are for of them and the wiring for any early sign of short....have all the wire coonection cleaned from dirt....
Have the winch been opened before, and have u bought it used or brand new?

No I would say check the coils(relay) there are four of them and the wiring for any early sign of short....have all the wire coonection cleaned from dirt....
then try it and see if there is any sound/slippage performance difference
Last resot take out the gears make sure they are tightly back in place cleaned and greased

It has a brake inside the cable drum similar to the old peddle brakes on a push bike. It has prob had some water in there and its not holding properly now. You need to split the ends off the drum and clean the brake assembly. Mine did this a few years ago and after cleaning this out have had no more trouble.
I doubt it would be a solinoid as stated above as these do nothing to hold the weight of the vehicle when its not in operation.

Did u open up the brake assembly of the XD9000? As a matter of fact I went off roading last weekent and had to winch myslef from deep mud to break suction and be able to use my Hi-Lift.
Did notice some slippage at the unwinding only one time?
Have u opened it?

i had the same problem with my xd9000 and what it was was there is a circlip that holds the brake together and this had dislodged i got a new circlip from a bolt joint this fix it all up. to good as now when you let go of winding in it clunks and stops dead. be starts working agian when you wind in.
