Matt
Nope - its just going to cost but its something i have been wanting to do for a while now. I wouldnt think that I will be competitive at all really. I mean in the top competitions (UROC pros) some of the teams have 1/2 million $ sponsorship deals.
wow, surely you can get arb sposership they would jump at the chance to suport an ozzy over there i'm sure. the buggie already has airlockers but mavey money. c'mon some one will sponser you mabey you need to compeat for a while first 2 or 3 rounds to show you are there for a good while.

Not at all. I think the comp scene in Aust is really going to take off next year. Hopefully we will have a series here that is part of a US series and our series will qualify an Australian to compete in a true "world championship" Now Im fairly certain that we will have a WEROC series (this is something new and is being run by the Calrocs dude) and hopefully we should be able to get a UROC sportmans series going here as well which will qualify an Australian for Supercrawl. Now eventually there should be sponsorship $$ to send the qualifiers to the US to compete but Im sure next year it will be just whoever can afford to go will go (to get two rigs there and back is about $7000AUS for the shipping costs)
Believe me - Rockcrawling is really going to take off here in the next few years.

Thats OK - I already got a sponsor - Haultech Engineering.
In reality the cost for me to do one competition in the US is probably comparable to the costs that the NSW guys have when they compete up here. Id imagine that to compete in Qld from NSW you will easily have direct costs of over $1000 (transport cost plus entry). Ive even heard of bigger numbers getting thrown around (like $2000). Now basically for me to compete over there all I got to cover is the plane fare (say $2000) and a hire car ($??) and just show up at the event. I would guess that my costs will be less than twice what if costs the NSW guys to compete up here.
Excellent news. this will certainly be an interesting experience. Be interested to see how much of change in driving stlye is required to be competitive. Good luck with it. I hope you'll have your notepad ready so you can take down as much info as possible about how they are doing their events compared to what you guys are doing with PUOSU etc
Hey Sam

I am thinking into the future for myself of doing the same, but bringing the rig back to OZ. There are always half a dozen rock crawlers on Ebay going for 6-15 k US, and whats in half of these you couldnt even come close to building in OZ.
Get one for 8k Us, ship to aus and end of the day your under $15 grand AUS and for that its a bargin!

Just for interest Sam, for me to compete in either Nissan Trials or Woodpecker costs me close to $1000.00, if I tow the lux there and back, most of that cost is fuel. If I was to go to Queensland it would be up around $2000.00 to $2500.00.
