Anyone run Silverstone MT-117 Sports?

Interested on how they go in mud, rocks, road etc.
What sort of milage can they expect?

gday dave my mate runs them, they go pretty well, also i think big red toy has them. I'll speak to you later about them-may be able to get a good price-only come on 16in rims i think

They are great, never had a puncture, never popped a bead and have run em at 12psi. Need a 16 x 8 rim. They air down well offer great grip which is heaps better than a standard mud, good cleaning of tread.
The only downside is that they are not taller as my axles still drag every so often . But other then that.... they are excellent
They also handle pretty darn good on the road as long as your run em about 50psi

are they 36 x 11.5 x 16 ?? someone told me they're just over $200 each new, thats a very cheap 36inch tyre. mabe he's full of it tho.

if someone can tell me these are available in a 36" rubber i will be happy happy.... i thought the largest size was a 33" and the plain MT177 (non sports) is 35.4" in diameter.

I like the Sports but dont like the non sports

I have seen a set of these tyres go through 4 vehicals and they were not treated with love and care

I don't know why they aren't more popular they are hellish cheep and good alround.

Having said that i'm selling mine, well maybe i might, the only reason i want them gone is to step into a larger tyre, there is no other reason to ditch them.

Funny how they make basically the same tyre size in each of the rim options... like a 33 in 15 and 16" on the MT 117 sport, a 32" in 15 and 16" in the MT 117 EX and a 35" on 16 only in the 117.


Thy'd sell a lot more if they offered a few other sizes in each of their patterns.

Unfortunately the Silverstones are very limited in sizes and availability. This is mainly because of financial constraints on the company from it's parent company the Lion Group and because of the huge local OEM orders for car tyres with Mitsubishi.

That aside they are the best traction for dollar available. As in a Centipede will slightly exceed their performance in anything but mud ...and the Sport is vitually half the price.

I was sent one of the original check sets to trial here in Australia (only 16 were made) and that particular set has now done over 70,000 Ks on a variety of vehicles competing and driven daily. They are almost knackered but have had a good innings.

The 33x12.5x15 is still not available yet but is coming. The 37 has also been designed but I wouldn't hold your breath.

We run them on 16x7 rims and they hold a bead like crazy.

The only thing putting me off is the solid ring of rubber which runs down the centre of the tyre.

Ive heard that the mt117 sport is a claw rip off. But claw doesnt have the 'rubber ring'. Would this cause the tyre to be not as good?

I dont know much about tyres, but can only imaging that if your trying to get grip on rocks for example you'd want some voids in the solid ring to bite in??

Please correct me if im wrong...

the mt 117 pattern was around waaay before claws were on the scene. i run the mt's and would never run anything else.

These are amilitary tyre rip off from the military trucks. From memory these were a goodyear design and I have seen them fitted to 1940's style military trucks like the internationals ect on 22.5" rims. Simex JT2's I think were a dunlop ripoff there was some on screwy's unimog patrol ENVY build up.

Most FWD tyres can be traced directly to the military truck tyre designs. Goodyear, dunlop, michellin all the ig names have been ripped off at some stage.

i boughtg my 80 series with some 33 silvertone sports, about half worn i guess. quite good offroad, not too bad in mud, pretty good in sand and rock actually. i had 35 radial claws on my previous car, the claws were quiter on road.

i have the 33" sports on my jabber and for the price i think you cant go past them.
not the best tire available but for $200 a corner it was hard to say no.
in mud they were great, but make sure you have the power to turn them.
on rock they are average to good as long as its not too cold
sand they are good as long as you air down enough
loose dirt they are good



as far as wear on road goes id say 50,000 easy out of them if not more.
and i punish my tires

How many different patterns can there be ? Rip-off is quite a derogetery term.
All tyres are a rip off from Goodyear in the mid 1800's they were the first to make vulacnised rubber pnuematic tyres.

The 23 degree chevron design is a proven one that works (this is the optimum angle for the tread blocks to perform in a variety of terrian )

I bought some 285/75-16s and cruiser offset sunnies other week, and as borat says VERRYYYY NIIIIICCEE !! !!!! !!!



are fine onroad i run em at about 30-35psi had em at 40psi and felt wierd, and offroad where it counts they are great and laugh at any sign of mud

so yeah get some!
