Oil filters

Has anyone tried those magnets that go around your oil filter.They are supposed to make any metal particles in the oil stick to the inside of the filter and not circulate through the bearings etc.

haven't used 1 myself. but its simple cut appart
the old filter to look inside to check the amount
of metal filings etc. then fit new filter, magnet new
oil etc and when its time to change cut that 1
open to see how much difference there is .

Shouldn't the filter block those metal bits anyway? That's what it's for isn't it?

Well, all above claims are FALSE and IMPOSSIBLE, the only thing that magnets are good for is the removal of ferrous i.e. magnetic particles.

Since I will be running an all-alloy V8 I guess a magnet wont help much - the alluminium will wear before the steel....

Sometimes aluminium normally lasts longer than steel. Steel bits get embedded in ally and wear away the steel opposite surfaces.
