It's painted
I've posted progress on this FSJ here on occasions - thought you might be interested to see it after we painted it on the weekend.
The colour is GMH Firethorn listed in the 1980 colour chart.

80 series Extra Cab - a work in progress.
and some more pix
I've had the dash powder coated and put a set of guages out of an XJ6 Jag in it.
Hope to fit the dash this weekend.

Tray
Yes I've built a tray with redwood timber side rails and a hard roof.
I'll add black canvas between the roof and the redwood rails - semi camper sort of.
I'll use it for short sleepovers when I go to Fraser / Moreton Etc.
Got any pix of your J200?

I'm getting jealous now fellas.
I miss my FSJ's
Had an 82 with 6 cyl which I drowned
Had a 79 V8 with spring over which I rolled
Had an 82 V8 with all sorts of goodies which I sold when I got the WJ.
Still on the lookout for a project truck or WT Chero though...
Thanks for the pics Dave
Can't wait to see pics of yours too Timmy

progress report
Ok - the weekend saw a lot of work on the J-Truck Jeep.
Firstly I put the dash in - simple.
Next, WE (read that as me, my boys, some mates and a carton of beer) put the custom built tray on the abck - it is HEAVY.
I played around a bit with the lay of the tray - levels etc.
A tray that slops towards the cab or one that slopes away from the cab looks bad - I think I got it right with the help of a spirit level.
Today the new windscreen and $200 rubber surround was installed (sorry that's a personal gripe about the cost of the rubber).
I played around for almost a full day fitting one guard under the back tray - pretty happy with the end result.
The other one will be a lot easier.
I'll post some pix as soon as I find the digi cam charger... it must in this mess somewhere.

Thanks for the update Dave.
Guess what ?? I bought myself a nice 81 J20 on the weekend for only 1000 bucks !! It's got a running 258 and a few war wounds around the cab but nothing outrageous. I'll drop my 360 and TH400 into it and make it look pretty and I'll finally have myself a J-Truck. I'll take some pics when I get her back to my place in the next week or so...
A very happy Adman

Some pix
Ok - this the beast with the tray on - although it is still being adjusted.
I set the guards a little outside the tray - just for a different look.
There's also a pic of the dash installed but without any gauges.
A work in progress...

It is 'almost' a new one - I kept two beams from the original 1968 tray for nostaga reasons ... - the truth is I couldn't be bothered replacing them cause they were as good as new.
I kept the same dimentions and used redwood beams rather than steel.
The only steel is the top frame.
I know it is not cool to have a tray looking like that but I'm building the truck for a purpose - to camp out of while fishing Fraser.
If you go to Fraser you'll see a heap of troopies set up very similar.
Thanks for all the coments - it's getting there.

I've tried hard to find out exactly what model this is, but can't confirm it exactly.
I was told by the previous owner it is a 1968 model.
It's badged as a J200 (not J20).
It has no VIN number.
It has 5 stud wheels, Dana 44 front and Dana 53 rear diffs.
If anyone knows how to identify it - let me know.

yeh it looks like the J200's were mostly 5 lugs....my J200 has front and rear 44's ,
if yours has a 53 rear dave it will be one of these models:
2306B,
2406B.
they are the only 2 models listed in my manual that come out with 53 rears.
but i think i read somewhere that the 2306 refers to a 2 wheel drive version

Thanks - thats great - finally a model number!
What is the difference between Dana 44 and 53 diffs?.
Any idea?
Thanks

PS - Did a search using that model number and just found this site:
http://www.wagoneers.com/FSJ/tech/FSJ-v ... pre68.html
That list models etc.

well they both run the same ratios, either 4.27 as standard or there was the optional 4.88..
both semi floating
the drive pinion on the 44 is offset by 38mm and the 53 is offset by 44.4mm
and the ring gear on the 44 is only 21.6cm while the 53 is 23.5...
then there is also the dana 70 which came out in some j200's and 300's which is hugggge

lol..thats cool...i wouldnt be able to answer them if i didnt have this book
looking from the rear of the jeep there will be an Ratio Tag plate on the left hand side of the diff cover and these diffs could also come with an optional Powr-Lok diff, the tag for this would be at the bottom right of the dif cover
mine are 4.27's and theres no tag for the diff lok :(
