GQ\MAV AUTO TRANSMISSION REBUILD PROBLEM

Hello all,

I have recently had my automatic transmission rebuilt, solving all of the problems I had with sloppy shifts and the loss of reverse (until warmed up) when starting the car on a cold morning. However I now have a new problem which I didn't have before the rebuild and that is the jumping out of high range 4wd (back to 2wd).

When I got the car back from the rebuild I noticed that the shift from high 2wd to high 4wd was totaly different to before the rebuild. Before the rebuild the shift required firm pressure to slide from one to the other and once in 4wd would never slip back to 2wd no matter how corrigated the road or how fast the speed. The shift is now very light and cannot stay in high 4wd at all without it jumping out unless you hold the shift lever in position.

I have called the transmission shop responsible for the rebuild about this and they insist that this function (2wd high to 4wd high) isn't part of the main box and is therefore not covered by warranty.

My understanding of automatic transmissions is limited which is why I went to a so called specialist to fix my problems in the first place. However I don't believe in coincidence and think that this should be covered under warranty for a "full transmission rebuild".

Correct me if I'm wrong but the transfercase (seperate to transmission) doesn't come into play until you select low range 4wd (which works fine).

What I'm after from you lot is some exbert advice regarding how these transmissions work in high range before I take this any further. If I'm incorrect in my understanding of things I will happily pay to have it fixed.

transfer case is seperate to gearbox. So rebuilding box wont do shit to tcase.

Checked the linkages?

unless when they have dropped the box for the overhaul, they greased up all the external linkages, for the transfercase, even if they had,i dont think it should have affected the way it shifts,

Would you concider the shift from 2wd high to 4wd high a function of the main box?

it is definatly not a function of the box, the linkages shoot past the auto trans, and enter the Transfercase, the only thing they would have done maybe was pull the transfer case off the auto box, to make it easier to work with

No. nothin to do with it

One reason maybe hold your hand on the transfer case lever and see how far it moves on corrigations even better take the boot cover off see if the transfer case lever is hitting the side of the hole in the floor is making it jump out of gear i can only think that something is making it jump out ie when he put it back in it has moved slightly making the lever push out of gear other than that i can only think of something in the transfer case im not sure if they have to take the transfer apart to get it away from the auto if he has than maybe he has done something to the trasnsfer

Shine a torch up under the vehicle to the xfer linkages, ensure it is spring loaded into the detent rail, also ensure no carpet, rubber boot or wires are putting tension on anything.

It is seperate to auto but linkages may of been removed off side of box.
Bottom shaft into transfer should have resistance between gear pos.
Remove lower linkage inside rubber boot on bottom side of transfer and check by hand.
