How often should you re-grease CV's?

Since I'm doing wheel bearings at moment, it isnt much more to rip CV's out and do them, if I remember correctly. But I do think that one of the seals is pretty $$ :(

So what grease is the go for CV's?

i just used bearing grease in my CVs ... and yeah if ya got it apart u may as well do the CVs

did you go with new seals, or the old ones were ok?

if its ur daily use new ones ... if not ... use old ones


in my ute i think the seals are stuffed the hubs have oil in them lol
keeps everything lube still anyhow ..

In CV's it is advisable to use molygrease which is that black sticky grear as it has graphite in it to lube better.

Do the seals.

Simple as that, they are worth bugger all but are a lot of effort to replace if they leak later

thats what I was thinkin, been 12 mths since I did em, so just tryin to remember what i did LMAO cant really remember this morning..

Bruce, don't use the Lithium (Moly) grease. I'm in the process of changing the front wheel bearings and right through to new top and bottom swivel hub bearings on my GQ. The guys next door to us are doing it for me as they can fit it in, the RHS has been finished and the LHS wheel bearings are in. Doug ran out of time as the silly bugger was getting married and he'll be finishing the swivel hub bearings next week.
Anyway, he was saying that they are seeing a few wheel bearing failures being attributed to using the Moly/Lithium grease, it flows pretty well in normal circumstances but in 4x4 situations it can't handle the increased loading. He got in contact with Castrol and their recommendation in 4x4 running was for their HTB (high temperature bearing) grease and that's what we're using in mine. It was interesting to see that my CV on the RHS was in excellent condition when he pulled it out. He cleaned out all the old grease from the CV, even to using carby cleaner to get right into the assembly and totally regreasing the assembly with new grease.

Use Moly (not graphite ) grease in cvs. Use htb in wheel bearings.
