Some of you may have seen my post in the For Sale section about how the USA has 4.3, 4.6, and even 4.9 H233B gears OEM and that I'm offering to export used sets considerably cheaper than aftermarket gears would run you.
Well, in the recent Lokka thread here in the Nissan section, I realized that the GQ front diff and WD21 (1st-gen) Pathfinder 31-spline rear diff share the same ARB locker part number. That means that the WD21 rear LSD centre should drop right into the GQ front diff as well.
If there is any interest/demand in LSD centres for the GQ, and if WD21 Pathfinder LSD centres are rare and/or expensive, I wonder if there's any potential in shipping used WD21 LSD centres to you guys too. If the gear prospects actually work out, I'm sure I'll end up with the centres from the drop-outs the gears come from available too.

Let's keep the gear talk in the thread in the For Sale section, but that may be a tall order. 3.9 rear gears shouldn't be that hard to find, but we have no C200 front axles here. If C200 rear or R200 (rear or front) gears can go into a C200 front, there's hope (and R200 rears are likely easy enough for you to find, most any RWD Nissan car will have one).

yeah, the 31 spline Navara (xterra? ute type thing?) LSD's we have here can be swapped into a patrol front. i assume pathfinders are the same? no-one seems to do it though. lot of effort for something that isn't a locker.
if the haultech traction control thing takes off it would be a good swap, as the LSD should help the traction control act a bit more aggressively.

Wendle, do you know if this is an easy fit? I heard that it was doable but involved some modding to the case.
If it were a relatively easy bolt in I think I'd give it a good look. My theory is that you'd rank the front diff options like this:
1. air locker
2. LSD
3. Lokka/lockright autolocker
4. Open

Everything Ive read, and talkin to Bazzle and others about it, LSD in front can be a nightmare.

From everything I've driven with my front LSD which is wound up near as tight as a welded diff, it's great, I've got full steering in mud still, you can feel a difference, but same with anything bar an air locker. It actually makes my standard 350,000km rear LSD look nearly as bad as a new Toyota LSD
Mine is a pathfinder centre with GQ ring & pinion, MQ rear fits too with re machining of the crown wheel holes.
I got an air locker going in the rear and will probably never bother changing the front. I like the no breakum CV option, especialy when used with a heavy right foot & TB42.

Nice to hear form someone who has done it. Sounds good. Get a place to swap over your R&P on the Pathy centre and whack it back in.
Did you do the swap yourself or pay someone?
Sounds like the steering is still better than an autolocker (as I would have expected). Not breaking CV's due to reduced strain is one of the potential benefits I suppose, so long as you dont plant the boot heaps on rock ledges and stuff.

Indeed, sounds like there are some decent options available already. Still curious to know if your Pathy rear LSD has the pressure ring/cam setup in between the clutch packs or if it's a pure clutch unit.
And I'm still game to ship the units I have if it's easier than the other options. Price TBD based on what your options run you otherwise.

they are not talking about changing the gearset or carrier, just the centre.
putting the low-pinion carrier in brings up all sorts of dramas with steering and tailshafts.
i would weld up my original centre rather than putting an LSD in.

The swap is a straight bolt in, a mate had it tightened when he first installed it, then went air locker, don't know what the guts look like, I have an MQ LSD in bits though and it just has clutch packs.
Steering is fine, no where as bad as an autolocker.
