I reckon Isuzu's must have one of the lowest ratio of owners to owners that actually take them off road... :mad:
I mean I see heaps of them out on the road but very rarely cross paths with any on the trails. Whats everyone elses experience?

I have found exactly the same over here.
I had always liked the Bighorn/Jackaroo, and had heard they were good off road,but was put off by the fact that I had never actually seen one used off road.
Most were driven by the wealthier lot for a family wagon (and still are).
Must say, mines seen little off roading, not by choice though!

i agree, but i like it this way and love to see ppl say 'what is that and how did he get it through that. 8). personaly i dont like being the same as everyone else. I would never buy a landcruiser or a patrol because there are just to many of them and it is nothing different. My other option that i was looking at was a subaru - an older RX that has been lifted to the sky or a brumby. They can get going pretty good if u put a WRX motor in them which i have seen many ppl do to the brumby but none of them have lifted them up???

I too like the idea of having something out of the ordinary. Even more-so with the Short wheel base version like mine. But still it'd be nice to have a few others around that had the same enthusiasm about getting the most out of their Jackaroo. Sure its never going to be the most capable fourbie around, but I just want to see how good I can get it.

As for subarus, they are good reliable cars (my last car was an Impreza GX AWD) but will always be limited by their car-like build. You can put a lift kit in them but their problem is the entry and exit angles.

Yours is the only one I've ever seen offroad Noel! And I must say I think it goes bloody well!

Must admit, from the look of those photos of your truck Noel, it looks bloody great off road.
Good looking tracks over there.
Know of any 4wd rentals over there so I might tag along some time?
Being a rental, I'd treat it with the utmost respect and care, as if it were my own :twisted:

4WD rentals? Well I'm sure they are around but I bet they make you sign something to say that your not going to do hillclimbs or drive through mud or anything else slightly extreme. :evil:
If ever you manage to get over here though, there is always the passenger seat of mine if you like...

There's 6-7 Fronteras around here and i'm certain that none of them have been offroad. All of them are stock and all of there owners point and stare at mine as I drive past. Not that mine's all that modified.

Never see any Jacks off road around here either....

Going by the ratio of Jackaroos to Fronteras in the ozzuzu group, its pretty clear that Frontera owners are more willing to do mods. I think its probably because the Frontera appeals to a younger market generally so more likely to attract people who are willing to use them for their intended purpose.

Now where did I put my walking frame... HAHA! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Mine always gets the once over and surprised looks when I am out. There are the usual bunch of Nissans and Jeeps etc and the only time I have encountered other FtrUCKs is when I am out with the Ozzuzu boys.

Hey guy's,
I know what your talking about when it comes to OFFROAD JACKAROO'S.
I have had three JACK'S and I use them all the time.(mainly in the northwest of WA)
But when I got to perth I met up with a few poeple from a local 4x4 club (TOYOTA's/NISSAN's) I went on a trip down south and these guy's went on some of the meanest tracks Ive seen.Now the JACK was about 6 weeks old and as stock as you could get.This trip would have been one hell of an initiation to a novice who just bought a bran new 50k 4x4.(and is probably one reason newbies only go out once)
The other three 4x4 who were also on there first trip with the group have never come out since?(just my thoughts????)

Yeh I have a 2002 JACKAROO SE "WIDETRACK" v6 Manual. I have a TJM Steel Bull Bar, Hella Rally 4000 Spot Lights, GME TX 4400 UHF Radio, Rancho RS 9000 Shocks, Luvell Coil Spring, Rancho incab adjustment (2" overall lift), 275/70 R16 BFG All Terrains and am in the process of fitting a long range 140ltr tank. This vehicle is mainly my touring holiday wagon. I brought the Jeep because it took my wife about 2 months to get over our first outing with the local 4WD club and she was not too keen to put it through that kind of abuse again. (I do use the Jack for off road but it is not a rock climber). The Jeep is my toy and I a very effective off road rock crawler without the worries.

Sounds very nicely set up wolf. Who supplied your Ranchos in Perth and what did it all cost? Looking at doing the same rear setup...

I went to WILKINSONS SUSPENSION in BAYSWATER, Dale is the guys name he knows his stuff. But like all after market suppliers He does'nt really take a JACKAROO as a serious off roader,so dont let anyone talk you into soft springs if you think you need heavy duty tell them.I had to change my springs after around 10,000km because they were too soft when loaded up(to LUVELLS) the hole job fitted cost me $890- cheap considering the RANCHOES are close to $200- by them selves.
