Gearbox Oil confusion

Post by Justin_M »

Mmm well i just looked at the castrol website and it states that my 5 speed MK will take 4.4 litres of oil. My owners manual tho dosnt differentiate between the capacity of the 4 speed and 5 speed? Just says M/T 2.7l

And on a second note, i have cold shifting trouble, and ive been told the castol vmx80 might help remidy this? Whats your opinions and anyone know the price of vmx?

There are only 2 oils to use in the box.
80W90 or VMX80.

They are almost the the same grade, but the VMX80 has an extra adative in it that enables smoother cold shifting etc.
Run VMX80 if u have this problem.

The 5 speed holds about 800ml more oil than the 4 speed.

u will need more than a 4 litre for both gearbox and transfer.
Only one bottle for the box.

But a 20 litre drum and a cheap hand pump. Use it for gearbow, transfer and front diff. Rear too if not lsd.
