--- pls help --- oil coming out of alternator

appears oil is coming out on a steady flow of one of the holes at the bottom of the alternator
does anyone know what it is - if it's big, major, small, fat, skinny ?
and how i can fix it ?
its a gq 88 4.2 diesel patrol non-turbo

theres an oil feed hose leading from the block.

Perhaps that?? or a seal inside it??

dude.
engine oil goes through the vacume pump at the back of the alternator. There should be an inlet and outlet for the oil - smallish hoses going to the engine block.
Check the engine oil level before you fry the engine to make sure you have some oil left and havn't pumped it dry.

i know what your drama is,

the alternator has a shaft that comes out the back, there is a seasl inside the alternator housing for this shaft, you have you vac pump on the back with an oil feed, the oil i seeping through the sseal, and leaking out the bottom,

if you are confident, pull the alternator out, and remove the vac pump, and remove the back half of the alternator casing, take it to you local auto sparkym they will measure up, and put a new seal in for ya, mine cost me around $16, this included him fitting the seal, i then went home and put it all back together.

if you arnt confident, take to auto eleccy and say fix it please.

but it pumps it out fast tho :(

Yes there is an oil seal in the back of the alternator housing. When it leaks, oil runs out a small hole in the bottom, in theory keeping the slipsrings uncontaminated with oil......

If your alternator has done lots of KM's, the rotor shaft may be scored where the seal runs and the new seal may not seal properly. Either positioning the seal in a slightly different spot or using a 'speedi sleeve' may help. Check the front bearing while its apart.

Also if it has been awhile since the last oil change, there can be other problems. Due to diesel oil containing alot of carbon if it gets into the alt it can short it self on the casing. When it does this the voltage reg on it doesent work, mine was putting out some big volts. Lights look really bright right uptill they go bang and then it is very dark.
