Post by SWBmav »

hi. I have a shorty mav and i am just starting to do it up. But i cant decide what to go with a body lift and springs or just springs. So can any body tell me if it is werth put a 5 inch lift under a SWB car. How would it handle. going flat out in the bush.

try searching this and last 4 pages, its been asked before.

Why do you need 5inch lift? 36's fit with a 3inch lift and guard chop
35's with 3inch lift and 2 body no guard chop only lip on edge.

YOU ALREADY HAVE BETTER CLEARANCE THAN THE LONG WHEELBASE CARS SO A 3INCH WOULD BE HEAPS.

i got 5 inch lift under my mav shorty.. auto straight gas 91 model xlt.
if i was doing it again id do 2 inch body 3 inch springs.. much less hassles..

if u gunna go the 5 inch spring lift u need seriously consider between double -carden rear shaft or twisting rear diff to get pinnion angles back pretty close to original... speak with the people that have done this before.. cheezy is the guru... help me with my set up.. he does 4 of these lifts a day...

as the guys said.. depends what u want it for.. but they look so damn good up high with big coils
also dont forget radius arm spacers for the front..will get u bigger tyres with less lift...cheers mate

3" suspension and 2" body easy clear 35"s by the same standard.

Thank's for the info. I have been looking into it. and it looks like iam goindg to be up for about $3500 to $4000 grand to put a 5 inch under it. at the moment its my every day car but i am looking at having it ready for a few comps by this time next year. i already has a 2 inch lift and 33 BFG mddies. but it also is on gas and with a body lift i would be able to raise the gas tank up.

if tank is mounted under chassis, just make sure there is enough give in your filler lioe to over come the body lift. if the tank is mounted in the back cargo area, then u have to make sure of give in lines from tank to chassis..as ur das lines will more than likely run from back to front along chassis rails..

my mav has two tanks.. and when i was asking about body lifts was advised to change my copper lines to flexy lines..which has so far stopped me from doing the body lift.. but i will be doing it soon.. 2 inches.. get a gas guy to check your set up and see if ur lines will allow the lift..

thats what ive been thinking. is anyone capable or crazy enough to cut the mounts off a gas tank and raise it up to suit the body lift.

Yer. i am a fitter and turn by trade and i dont know about cutting the mount off the tank but i do know that i wouldnt want to be the one doing it. but i've been looking at mine and it looks like it cane be done. But i wonder what one would look like with all spring. And the rear cut out if the gas tank would look like it was hanging low.

with the gas tank lifted you wouln't have to worry about gas lines and how long they are. when doing the body lift.
