Turbo & Engineers

Well i have been ringing around for the last couple of days getting quotes and am now wondering if anyone here can help me with this question.
Do i need to get my Hilux 95 model 2.8L diesel engineered when i get the turbo fitted ??? 3 out of 4 places i rang have said NO but 1 said YES ??? Rang the RTA technical Enquires(NSW) they say YES but wont say why .

Has anyone else gotten theres engineered and how does your insurance treat you,i remember when i had a modified car i couldnt get insurance once it was all engineered etc.

well NRMA didn't seem to care about engineers certificates for my turbo. They didn't even ask. As long as it is installed by a professional workshop...etc...etc

The RTA manual states "any forced induction requires an engineers certificate". It also says that a 15 percent increase in power or capacity is allowed with an engine change of a similar type EG: same sereis.
If you modify anything to make an engine fit it must be engineered.

As far as the turbo goes a lot of them are fitted to deisels & the owners are not given the correct information about engineering. Most aftermarket turbos will give about 30 o/o mor power than standard.

It is a bit hard on deisel owners as it makes them safer & reduces emissions.

I too called around and was told 10 different things, even the installer said yes, but not to worry about it as nobody ever checks..

remembering saying " I didnt know" is no defence with these pricks.

I don't want to sound like a smart arse here Bogged but ignorance is not a defence.

The regulating body's veiw is it is your responsibilty to find out everything you need to know before you start. With a bit of resaerch everything you need to know is availiable & if you know your stuff you can defend yourself if things go wrong.
