Refurbishing idler arms and Ball joints??? (Polymer Process)

Has anyone had idlers refurbished with polymer... I dont know a lot about the process yet but as Daihatsu just quoted me $900 for an idler, a pitman and two ball joints I am looking into other avenues...

I have found a place in Brookvale that can repair/refurbish the joints and arms with a polymer of some sort, but am not sure if its the answer. It does come with a 40,000km/2 year warranty...

Any comment?

This will solve at least one of your problems Croz- it's been talked about before in the Daihatsu section.

Well you got me thinking... If its just the bush then Ill be there, but I think the guy I spoke to said it was more serious.

Still leaves the ball joints at $190 each and pitman at $235... :cry:

I've used this process, injecting the hot polymer to 'renew/repair tie rod ends on a vehicle we used to own, there were no spares available in Oz.
I borrowed the tool from a friend of a friend at the time.
It was from the USA and this is apparently done quite a bit over there but apparently was not approved (or wouldn't be approved) here.
Basically it was a chamber in which the polymer was heated and then forced into the joint through the grease nipple hole. Lasted for the remaining four years we had the vehicle.

Might sound silly but have you tried aftermarket replacements from Auto 1, Peps, Repco etc etc?

Ummm... yeah... Nobody makes ball joints or steering arms for Daihatsu...


But if anyone knows something i dont come forth...

Have you looked at some other vehicles from the Toyota umbrella company such as a Hilux or some of their passenger cars? Very unlikely that Daihatsu would have gone to the trouble of going solo on what could quite easily be corporate generic parts such as ball joints and steering arms.........

Take a couple of the old Daihatsu bits to a Toyota wreckers and have a look around for vehicles of the same age/weight for a comparison, get the model, and go to a Toyota dealer or an aftermarket store and try them. Unlisted does not mean unavailable.....
