They were available in series 1 4runner SR5, A differently housed version was available in some middys. The Series 2 Surfs can also be found with auxillary guage pods - although the recess for them in the dash is on the passenger side.
I scored a set from a wrecker out of a series 1 & fitted them to my series 2 - the other half was exhibiting an irrational fear of side slopes. The "Scream-o-meter" helped to put things in perspective

It depends on the model of truck you have. A series 2 Surf, like the series 2 4Runners, & 89 - 97 hilux, has a recess in the dash on the passenger side. This recess is where the clinometer fits. The previous shape hilux / 4runner has a rectangular recess in the middle of the dash, adjacent the instrument panel. So the outer housing for the clinometer package, & Facia shape are different between models.
They attach via 4 bolts through the dash into a metal baseplate in the guage assembly.
Mine is from a series 1 4runner. I made a false base from aluminium and simply attached it to the dash mat with cable ties.
