Just wondering if there are any laws as to where you can locate your lpg tank, mine is currently located in the back of my 2door rangie (80ltr, 65 usuable) and want to move it under the vehicle, was thinking of removing the 80ltr tank and putting the gas tank as far forward as possible where the old tank was but then put a smaller petrol tank behind this eg 40ltr, of course have a bash plate fitted to the lpg. Just wondering if any one else has done this before or if they know the laws, the car is registered in nsw but currently in melbourne and was thinking of having it done whilst I'm down here as i'll be back in sydney soon
any help muchley appreciated
Dixie

There is no such thing as a stupid question only stupid people
Yep that shouldn't be a problem, there was a kit for discos and rangies
that was nearly exactly what you said.
It had a frame made angle steel and two smaller tanks (42 water cap)
that sat side by side that replaced the 80L and then had a smaller tank
that sat up in the drivers side rear guard - 40L or so.
What I reckon would be better would be to get two smaller sill tanks
tigged up and fit them in the underbelly under the doors. They were comercially made to have 30L or so each side - that way you could have
a nice 67L water cap lpg setup and 60L of fuel.
Give your local gas shop a call and have a word about regulations the only one I can think of is that it needs to be something like 300mm from the exhaust. The kit I had didn't have much in the way of a bash plate.

I will see if I can find a photo of the tank setup for you
Found one
This is similar to mine bit mine was made of heavier steel and the tanks weren't connected there were separate with the line to the converter having a one-way Y fitting in it

hey dixie, the pic of the tank setup that tom posted is a great setup, ive fitted a few setups like this before, also consider what we call donut tanks, these are great because they come in alsorts off diametres and depths, there also go for 4x4s like cruiser, hiluxs, etc cause they just replace where the spare wheel is chained up underneath, as for 'laws' the tank has to be located within the chassis rails (so there goes the sill tank idea), atleast 100mm from any exhaust and 120mm from any moving part, there are 'laws' about how far in from the rear most part of the chassis it should be (to allow for a crumple zone) but most of us dont usually check, but just allow some room, or even better check out some other rangies and see how and where they have located there tanks.
