hilux rear and cruiser front diffs

hi all...just needs some info can the front of a crusier( don't know model mabe 80 series???)....center of diff go in the rear of a hilux??? and if so what modifications to bearing etc must be don't???

yes you can fit a late 75 and 80 series into the rear of a Hilux
80 series ratio is 10x41 = 4.1
75 series ratio is 9x 37 = 4.111
open center will go straight in with no mods
If you want to use the 80 series Factory ELECTRIC LOCKER you have to modify the housing slightly
I have been using the 80 series front locker in the rear of my Hilux for nearly 8 years

toyrex what do mean by modifiying the houseing??? like bearings or the diff case its self?and when u say front locker for a crusier do u mean a detroit or some other variant? and with say an air lock will the front fit to the rear? and the ratios.... i have a 86 mod sc hilux don't know what ratio the rear is but if i put say the 80 series 4.1 center/locker in what kind of change of torque or speed change will i get? don't know if i explained this well

If you want to use the 80 series ''electric locker ''you have to modify the housing
NOTE I DO MENTION TOYOTA 80 SERIES ""ELECTRIC LOCKER " NO MENTION OF DETROIT OR OTHER VARIANT

You have to modify the diff axle housing where the where the center or pumpkin or what ever numeral names the have
You have to cut a piece out of the housing weld and grind a flat surface for gasket contact then drill and tap 4 holes

Installing a front (high pinion) diff http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/hipi ... ectric.jpg in the Hilux rear axle does give you ground clearance. However the front diff's ring and pinion gears [/u]should be[/u] reverse cut. Installing the diff in your rear axle means you're applying torque to the weaker (coast) side of the gears. Same action as driving the differential in reverse all the time.

A better option is install the high pinion diff up front (in a solid axle) and a 22RTE/V6 rear diff in the back axle housing. See this pic for the difference in the rear diff housings (4 cyl and v6. The v6 is in the background).http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/faq/parts/3rds.jpg
