Yeah they did spend a lot of time making it. I spoke with the guy that designed and made it. He added the spring because he kept on chewing out bushes and he wanted to overcome this by making it flex. Unfortunately he didn't realise that in doing this he totally destroyed it's properties as a Panhard Rod...

Clasic example of fixing the sympom, not the cause.

The geometry of the mounting points is all wrong and causes the bushings to bind. When looking down vertically, the panhard rod is at an angle away from the axle. Plus with it being on such an angle on a leaf sprung axle, the rod is fighting the stiffness of the leaves as the axle is forced to move in an opposing direction to the panhard rod when it flexes.
