toyota G series motors

Post by Guy »

There has been alot of chit chat about swapping 1g-gte and 1g-gze motors into hilux's .. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to these motors other than I know that the swap is supposed to be kinda easy ..

My question is more about the motors themsleves as pricing is basically identical ..

Which of these two donkls is best suited to life in a 4x4 ... the supercharged or the toibo charged (I could have the cool BOV noise if I had a toibo)

I assume the super charged motor would have a more linear torque curve, but it's just that an asusmption ..

So motor gods .. fill me in on which of the two you would run and why ..

The 1GGTE produces more torque, at only 200rpm higher in the rev range, and of course, more power. tonka is currently puting a !GGZE into his 'lux, and i think he is about to tackle the engine mount side of things.
Things to remember bout the whole 1G series
-they are sh!t strong motors
-drive and feel alot bigger than the 1988cc they are (trust me, i've had/built my fair share of them!)
-very easy to work on
-buy a 1/2 cut, that way you can run the motor in the 1/2 cut b4 you buy it, + they come with EVERYTHING you need to get them going very easily
-the GZE is slightly longer than the GTE as the s/charger pulley sits the furthest forward on the motor
-13-14psi and 3" exhaust on the gen 2/gen3 1GGTE will see ~150kw @ wheels (200hp)
-max torque of 280nm STANDARD is made at 3600rpm on the GTE's
-buy a manual 1/2 cut if you can, ~ $2000 for a GA70 Supra one (which is the Gen 3 1GGTE)
-Gen 1 GTE = water to air i/c, dark yellow ECU plugs (only 127kw @ 7-8psi)
-Gen 2 GTE = air to air i/c, light yellow ECU plugs, slightly bigger turbos than Gen 1 (149kw @ 7-8psi)
-Gen 3 GTE = air to air i/c, grey ECU plugs, same turbo size as Gen 2 (157kw @ 9-10psi)

Thanks for that, so either motor would be pretty good .. but the toibo will edge out the super charged donk .. but not by much..

Bottom line is that they will both pi$$ all over the 18r ... :D
