non Rocky diff options

im seriously wanting lockers and a working low range solenoid.
so i am looking at replacing the diffs and possibly gearbox to another make.


what diffs match the rocky gearbox :?: :?:
or a suitable replacement :?:


daihatsu Rocky diffs are offset to the right.

I dunno about any compatible diffs with the Rocky.
But this is what i've seen done so far that has been done on Rockys from where i am.
Then binned the original axle for:
Hilux axles and Airlockers
Landcruiser 60 using the OEM vacumm lockers.
Volvo C303 portal axles and OEM vacumm lockers.
They seem to work so far.

At the same time SPOA.
Maybe since gearing has been crapy on our Rockys why dont u be the first to run a transfer case into a transfer case hehe.
Food for thought eh.

Well being a short wheel base car looks like it's gonna be pretty tight...
Nah too much complication. I havent heard of a Rocky going rock climbing yet. I guess the most ideal is to get a popular axle where u can get plenty choices of crown and pinion ratios plus u can get a locker too.

Which is why i have a Hilux for more extreme off road excursion and one day i might consider doing up a Range Rover Classic. :idea: :idea:

I think the Hilux axles would be the closest match to a Rocky. Track width may even be identical.

Other advantages to consider as well:

1. option of going hi steer. (snake racing set up)
2. air lockers
3. can get stronger axles for it
4. they are factory SOA set up

If you have the $$$ I reckon go for it. It will be unique thats for sure. :cool:

twin sticks would be great but im only a cheap student :D

arent hilux and cruisers middle mounted :?:
dont now bout volvo's but portals would b sweet :armsup:

just guessing the gearbox would have to be changed or modified
to match the diffs.

The diffs from a Bundera will suit the offset of the transfer, but a lot of work will need to be done whether you want to remain spring under, or go for a full coil conversion.

yeah...or i could wait for u to prang ur olds landy :finger:
shouldnt be too long now :D

as soon as i get some time ill head to the 4x4 wreckers an measure
up some diffs.
