I've done a bit of a search but there's SFA on this site about them What did they come in What are the specs on em
How hard is an install into a sierra I assume tricky because I've never heard of one
I realise the CA18 would be better but any motor up to 1600 is a 'pre approved' swap up here so is easy. Queensland beautiful one day, confusing mod laws the next

CA 16 and CA 18 are the same series engine... just CA18 is obviously bigger. CA 16 is also really cheap... a few hundred should buy a NA engine only replacement.....
The CA16 is not a huge balltearer, unless you compare it to a Zook motor......
From memory power is in the mid 80kw range depending on version... so about the same as a 2.4 Hilux and better than an EFI 1.6 Vitara for a much cheaper $$$ - so overall not a bad option and well worth a few extra hassles to install.
If you could blow it afterwards it'd be great... but QLD transport stop that sort of fun too :(

CA16/18 are a different generation of engine to the SR20.... both have their good and bad points... although the good far outweighs the bad for both engines.
SR20 has more ultimate potential - but that's far beyond the scope of a 4wd application.... Having said that the difference in price between CA18 and SR20 would easily pay for more improvements for the CA18 to stay in fornt until the ridiculously large ricer wallet comes into play.

Just use the datto engine & box? See if you can get an auto in there even.

Datto autos in these are a 4 speed Automatic so would need all the bits for that including the factory EFI. As a consideration here size is gonna be a non issue with the turbo 1800 fitting into a 1200 datto engine bay.
The only normal issue for size in dattos is the transmission tunnel to cope with the 5 speed CA18DET box and the clearance for the intake manifold versus brake booster location. Using an earlier model Corolla remote mounted booster fixes this.
With a CA16 both should be smaller so less likely to cause issues.
Go down to your nearest Jap wrecker with a tape measure... they'll let you measure it up or they can't shift certain motors... the CA16 is a bit like that for them.

He used a CV joint with Sierra bit welded to one end, and nissan bit to the other.....In his swb sierra he used a hybrid 5speed front sr20, rear half was skyline..In his Lwb he is using auto, with a proper jack shaft... christover

series 3 bluebird 1980's type came out with a CA18.
for the g/box you could use the bell housing of the bluebird and bolt it up to a R30 skyline box or stanza 5 speed.
but come to think of it i think the CA series motors have the same bolt pattern as the L series motors, so you wouldn't need to change bell housings so just use the skyline box. (i'm 90% sure on this)
