Hi there

I would just like to introduce myself to this section as I just picked up a RJ70 landcruiser bundera the other day and am new to the forums!

Great tech talk you guys have going here.

My brother in law posted a question in another thread for me, and thanks for the replies who ever posted there.

The verdict on the bundy I bought is:

- breaks all around
- slave cylinder
- CV joints possibly? (they are leaking a bit of oil)

Apart from that, just a good service and tune and she will be right.

What I wanted to know was, if the CV's are gone, are they hard to change? I have a fair understanding of mechanical things, and will be repairing the breaks myself, so I might even give the CV's a tackle if they aren't to hard. Could anyone shed some light on the subject for me?

Cvs are easy to replace if need be, just pick a gregorys manual

umm a friend told me if they leak, they are stuffed.. :?

where the knuckle thing is (sorry about my terms hehe), there seems to be a bit of oil dripping every so often..

the cvs should be fine
you will prolly need to replace all the seals in the knuckles a seal kit costs around $110 for both sides and should only take a day or so to do.
Not a very big task as long as you have a few tools. Might be worth doing the wheel bearings at the same time thats about another $50 a side for bearings.

well thats a relief..

what symptoms do you get if CV's are broken/stuffed?

cause as soon as i bought the car, i took it down a dirt road / track and put it in 4low, locked the hubs in and gave it a burl.. felt ok to me.

if a cv is broken you will hear lots of bad crunching and grinding noises with the hubs locked and wont have front drive.

ahh sweet

well, I was actually shitting my pants today as someone told me CV's are a costly job..

so looks like all I really need is a seal kit and do the bearings while they are out..

the bad thing is, I dont have the confidence doing that part as I have never done bearings or anything like that on a fourbie..

i had never done it before either, just got a work shop manual and and pulled them down, did a bit of research beforehand and all went well

ahh ok..

I have a few things I have to do to the bundy, cant really wait to get her on the road as I just picked it up today, and have to get it ready for RWC. Not much on it, apart from what I have stated..

oh and the blasted rocker cover gasket has to be replaced.. easy job, but annoying.

if you have a front locker and you drive hard you will break lots (just ask ruff how many he broke)

Hi Nick,

I picked up the bundy for 3 grand at a car yard.. It was a trade in on a 1996 Landy Disco.

It's a 85 LX with power windows / sunroof (not working hehe) / air con / power steering / petrol.

Needs about 700$ worth of repairs to get it upto scratch.

Will be keeping it stock for a while, probably end of year will be lifting and going for a set of 35" Muddies, and start modding from there :twisted:

How about you? tell me about your bundy, what it is, what it cost ya etc..

It will be again soon im currently rebuilding it.

Bout 20 CVs but prob more like 30 :shock:

Would usually break at least one every time i went out wheeling.

If you saw how we(outerlimits crew) drive up here you would understand :lol:

i did the seals in my hilux it took about 6hrs to do

I am not as Ruff as RUFF :P i have poped about 10 or so!

But like ruff said have a look at some pics and get a hold of the AREA 54 VIDEO and when it is released the XRCC VIDEO to see how hard they are driven!

We dont bust them now as we both run SUPER BIRFIELDS (longfields)

We just break inner axles now!!! :P

With a bit of practice you will be able to change a CV in about 20 minutes.

We could change them in about that time sitting on a side of a hill with huge arse rocks in the road!!!

geez, I would hate too see all the reciepts you have clocked up over time replacing all the parts that you have broken four wheeling! :shock:

just got some prices for parts, and am quite happy!

2 x disc rotors
4 x brake pads
front wheel bearings
knuckle seal kits
brake shoes
brake cylinders
slave cylinder

all for around $500 (gf's brother is in the trade)

Getting all the parts tomorrow and will be doing the rear brakes& slave cylinder tomorrow night. Front bearings / brakes day after.

Yeah Robbie I bought my Bundy for $5500 in Melbourne and bought it back into Tassie (as they are about $10000-$15000 down here).
It is an 1988 LX with Power steering and Aircon. I have rescently done some stuff to it like:

I spent a week respraying it from a gold colour to a pure white (much better, even shows the mud better!!) (see images below)

Other stuff includes:

2" suspension Lift
Return to Center Steering stabalizer
31" All Terrains (doing hand breakies is helping me wear em down faster so I can get 33's-35's)(yeah i'll grow out of it one day)
Sports air filter (pod type, less resistance)
UHF Radio with 1.2m Whippie
8" Driving lights (Pencil Beam and Spread)
xtended Diff breathers
ect.ect.

As for the stereo:
Sony CDX-L570x (52W x 4)
2x Sony Xplod 6.5" Splits (220W)
2x 170W 6.5" Splits (170W)
15" Sony Xplod Sub (stop your friggin heart!!) (1000+W)


These photos show my bundy the week i got it into tassie (note shit colour and not matching pannel colours, and it now (including a bit of wheel travel). A great improvement.

What do you guys reckon? ( i'm getting mudders soon 33's 35's depends on what is going cheap)
