long travel throttle set up
the other day i was playing down at Yatla.. working my way up a neat hill i got a case of the judders. i have a 253 under the hood and as the rocks and crap where jostling me around my reaction on the pedal caused me to jerk all over the place.. (please, no funny comments here....lol)
i have read somewhere that landies have a long travel throttle set up.. wondered if
a) anyone else has this problems.. or is it just me being a wanker...
b) anyone worked out how to over come thing problem?
TIA
Rob

ohhhhh shite... it really didnt look that deep!
4wd's genraley have a longer travel throtel than car's. It may be that because you are useing a car motor in a truck that it now has the shorter throtel movement of a car. It may be worth playing around with it a bit to try and get more control

My 40 is like that too but its completely standard as far as accelerator cable and engine goes. I find that because the springs are so stiff u get thrown around a bit on rocks and your foot jumps on and off the touchy accelerator. Hand throttle is the option I choose when it gets like this but I have seen people use a thick foam sponge under the accelerator pedal so you have to push down harder, this means when u jerk u dont keep stabbing the accelrator when u dont mean to.
After fitting a Holden 6 cylinder to my Landy, I ended up with an ultra long travel pedal, excellent control offroad, but on road planting it actually involved an extra shuffle of the foot and lift the heel to get the last 10% of throttle.

just the standard one under where you have your tacho mounted? of have you fitted a handle to it?
i use it for warming the motor as i dont have a thermo fitted...
ohhhhh shite... it really didnt look that deep!
throttle..
yeah, i have mine mounted in the same position.
its a bit hard for me to reach from the drivers seat due to my fat beer gut... and that i still have the original steering wheel (no PS).. so i have to sit a long way back.
i might see if i can change some ratios on the carbie... i cant help myself...lol
have fitted the tacho now too Ray.. man, good job i had a super cheap dremel thingo to cut out the hole... the hole cutters shat itself in 30 seconds....
looks good tho...

I get that too, it's a bastard to keep your foot in one spot when that happens, not quite as hard as when i hit a steep hill and got thrown (literally) on top of the centre console, sh!t it was fun though...
Would be good to play with either some pivot points of the pedal, or a different sized roller on the carby...

Actually, you would have to both change pivot point at pedal and run a different sized wheel on carbie/TB... Otherwise you would lose some of your throttle travel at full pedal movement...

yeah, fair comment... im away this weekend. will see if it really is a problem and then check out the ratios, see what i can work out.
i think a throttle set up on the steering wheel would be cool.. like in teh old Model T fords....
