40 serries horn why not working ?

it sh$%#t so i fitted a new one i shorted the wire trying to rush blow fuse under dash fitted new one and still no power to horn is there a nother in wiring or under dash any help thanks darren
If you can not get there in a 4wd its not worth looking at

they came with a horn?????/

mine has a dodgy thing bolted to the chasis thats full of mud.
sounds like stumped mounting a calf.

where is yours mounted to mate?? the actual horn not button sorry.

that is exactly what was wrong with mine it is now bolted to body but same wiring etc as standard i have only changed the horn under bonet for a new one nothing else it was fine till i shorted it out though :oops: i tested the new horn it works .

Dose the standard horn have power to it all the time and earth out when you push button inside or dose it power up when you push button if that makes sence ? thanks again people able to help :cool:

The horn should always have power and earths through the steering wheel if has power to the horn try earthing it out to the body to see if it works

I tested it before working on it and it had power at it now after shorting it out it has none so that is prob but carnt find blown fuse any where all in fuse box have power both sides so are ok there must be a fuse im not aware of im thinking ?

DAZ,

the horn may or may not be running through a relay.. the wiring diagram i just looked at had a relay in it..

you may have damaged it when you shorted the horn out.. find it and make sure the 12 volts it getting to it..

there should be other circuits running off the fuse that just blew.. make sure these work now you have replaced the fuse..

every thing else appears to be working im not sure what else it affects as i just replaced the fuse and didnt take much notice which one it was but is there a relay ? as that could be it i spose ?

only option would be to either do another wiring run... or try and trace the horn wire back to find where it goes...

the conacts are fine there is no power at the horn and as for a nissan one you have got to be joking it was hard to get over the fact that i fitted ford fans :D ill just run a new power wire i think thanks guys :armsup:

Have a look under the brake booster some 40ser have a little relay on the firewall maybe u let the smoke out and it no good try to bypass it :roll:
