Dobinson's Springs and Shocks
I am seriously considering getting some 4" lift Dobinson's coils and shocks for the GQ.
I would appreciate any feedback from people who have run them and have good / bad stories to tell about the springs AND shocks.
Also, can anyone advise about Light / Medium / Heavy duty springrates and what I should consider for the GQ given that it has a long range fuel tank and in time will be wearing sill and rear bars, and probably a winch.
The truck will be setup for mainly weekend work but my aim is to keep it handling well at speed for touring and towing duties.
Will I be able to get by without swaybars?

I have dobinsons springs now, and use to have kings. The kings seem to be a slightly better quality. The end wrap at the bottom of the dobinsons fron coils isn't quite right and lets them move around a bit, this isn't really a problem thay just get a bit noisy, also make sure if you get dobinsons, get the light rate, as I think even that is still a touch too hard.. Come to think of it, do you want to buy a set of 4" kings coils off me? They were on my truck for about 10,000 km..
I used to live in Rocky, where Dobinsons are based. I thought I'd go for the local blokes. DOH, big mistake Sagged like heck real quick. Mind you, this was a few years ago, and they were leaf springs too, so perhaps these days they have got their act together.
Thats my 2 cents worth.
Cheers

Mud makes excellent toothpaste.
I have a set of 4" dobinson coils in my 80 series. It is a petrol with a 170 litre long ranger and draws in the back, i went for the medium. I have given them a really good flex and they are great, especially without the sway bars. I run Rancho 9000x with them. The back has sagged a little but nothing morethan i expected as it started of at about a 5 1/2" lift and is back to about 4 1/2", i am just going to put a spacer in the back to even out the front as it isnt sagging as quickly. Probably wouldnt go the soft springs though, as i already get plenty of articulation and not too much body roll with medium.
just my 10 cents

Depending on where you go you can get them for less than $200 per end. Give Hayden at Alpine Offroad a call / PM and he can sort you out.
Yeah Dan, As much as i would like the 6"... I have done my homework and found that for what I want to do the 4" will work better... Wait until I get the coils, front locker, sill guards and tyres and we can have a bit of a comparo between yours and mine.
