1.6 VW Diesel

Post by KAC »

There are a few people that are interested in the Vw diesel swap that i did.I built my own adapter out of 3/8 (9mm) plate.I used an 88 Jetta vw diesel(any vw engine will work gas or diesel) for my swap. The flywheel I used is off of a VW Fox.I don't know what VW models you guys got over there. The Fox that we have is Front wheel drive with the engine in the conventional way(not crossways like most front wheeldrives). ****note**** you can have your Serria or even a Vit. flywheel redrilled with the VW crank bolt patteren(the Fox flywheel will have to be turned down and a Suzuki starter ring gear installed) if you want.Ifusing the Fox fly wheel you'll have to get a pilot bushing made.Ifusing a Suzuki ring gear the crank will have to have alittle snout cut off.I used an Izusu gear reduction starter(Fox flywheel) or a Vit. starter if using a suzuki fly wheel.note either starter will work for either flywheel set up I personnaly used the Izusu. As for the clutch I used a Mitsubushi disc but an early 89 Vit disc is better to use.Let me know what else you guy's may want to know.

Unfortunately we don't get the latest VW small diesel engines over here. there were limited VW Golfs back in the late 80s (I think) that had diesel engines. Some of the latest ie 2004 2005 models will have the 1.9 TD which would be a sweet engine but the price and the ability to even find one puts it in the dream realm.

When I was in Moab in 99 keltec engineering had a couple of the 1.9 TD VW engined Zuks there, very nice and the install was like factory

Doug Kelsay (Keltec) help with loads of info when I built mine. He had just stopped building the kit but was nice enough to help me with mine information wise.
