Air Filter/Air Box Help

Post by ToNkA »

Well I dropped the 1ggze engine into the lux today and it bolts up!

Problem now is the original toyota hilux air filter set up doesn't fit anymore due to the supercharger and alternator being on the left hand side of the engine.

What have people found in their travels to be a good filter and box to use?

I have a fair bit of room, but not enough for the width of a toyo hilux box.

Any suggestions?

stick a pod in there ;)

naah seriously..

look at other model cars..

Go to a car yard.. and they all have their bonnets open.. have a look around for one that suits you.. and if you're crazy enough.. tak eit out in the broad daylight lolol

Naah,, it'll give you some idea of what you can use..

If u have a snorkel u can get a filter(like a sock type thing) that goes on the inside of the snorkel up the top and run a bit of steel enforecd air intake pipe of sum sort or find one off another veilchle thast long enough.

this takes the whole box out and u can get the scoks fairly cheap... Im about to do it to my pos to make room for a 2nd battery were the box is.

just a idea:)

I have one of those sock filters in my snorkel, a Unifilter Droopy.

see http://www.uniflow.com.au/droopie.asp

I was advised not to use it as a replacement for the main filter but I guess it would be enough for a comp truck. I think it will be useful on long trips through bulldust but they have to be cleaned daily.

I am fitting a 1UZ-FE to my Patrol and I have been looking for a filter/airbox and I am going to get one of these:

http://www.bmcairfilters.com/infoCDA.asp

Pretty pricey at $644 for box and filter but what the hey, will keep it forever...
Should go in well with the plumbing.
Let me know if you want to know where to get one.

donaldson make a huge range of filter assemblies, and are fairly well priced.

id love to use one of those sock filters, saves alot of room, but its a fair gamble to use with an expesive engine. it would be ok for on road. but dust would eat it in summer on a dirt road.

I had a Air box made up for $200. It seals a K & n pod filter in it.

A mate of mine and I both run pods, he has just finished off an air box out of an ammo box, I just keep the pod under the bonnet for general driving and put it through the firewall for wet stuff.
