what are the head lights in my 1988 patrol and what do i have to do to replace them as i what to put a higher watts bulb in it
The head lights in all GQ's are just 7" round head lights. To put higher wattage globes in, is very easy. There is 3 screws holding the head light in. You take these out from the front.
If you car has sealed beam you will need to go to a car parts place (autobahn, repco, autopro, supercheap - they are all pretty much the same quality).
If there are not sealed beam, they will be a H4 head light, so they take H4 globes.
To get the old globe out will be obvious when you see the back of the headlight.
So then all thats needed is take old one out and put new one in.
If you havn't got an upgraded head light wiring loom, you may need to stick to the lower wattage globes and maybe try the +50's etc. There are wiring looms for this job already pre made, they sell them thru most 4b shops. COuld also try piranha ( http://www.piranhaoffroad.com.au/produc ... ng%20Looms ). Or go see and auto elec and get them to make and fit one.
I have a heavy duty wiring loom in my shorty, which was done by an auto elec and it works well. And I run 90/145W globes.
As for what globes to buy I think I have put nearly everyones globes in my car over the last 5years and there dosent seem to be much differance in quality. But I do destroy head lights and globes alot.
Just a word of warning though Higher wattage globes do increase the risk of the reflectors flakeing (not a big problem though), also due to the much higher temps. If they are turned on and you do a river crossing/bog hole you can brake the glass in the headlight.

Loom is good value, you could probably make it cheaper, but this looks like it was put there by Nissan originally.. looks neat.
You could burn the wiring with the 90/130s with the human hair thickness wire nissan use
yep good gear you could put it together blindfoldedbogged wrote:MereMale wrote:Thinking of upping to the 90-130s, is the loom dear or can I just change it without doing the loom on an 86 MQ
