High Beam Problem

Post by Pesky Pete »

Havent had the time to have a comprehensive look yet but I have a problem with the High Beam on my 80 Series. When I flick the colum switch forward all lights go out. Yet if I pull it back to flash headlights, they work. Low beam is working normally, but the highbeam thing has me a little puzzled. All the fuses etc seem to be okay. I was thinking maybe a relay or something, but because it works when the lever is pulled back I am a bit lost. maybe it is the switch in the column that is at fault.

Had the same problem in a car years ago, turned out to be the little spring mechanism behind the steering wheel, had a litlle ball bearing that made the contact as the light stalk moved and it wan't making a good connection.

I have the same exact issue with the lux.

Quick fix is to spray some contact cleaner into the area.

Otherwise pull it appart, the connections become pitted due to the current and the little ball thing doesnt make clean contact.

Have u still got the standard size globes in it....

My mate put bigger ones in his 80 and it burnt out the highbeam in the dipper switch..

It would still work when u pulled it back as u say..

Pete, I have found that by rubbing ICE cubes on my Nipples usually gets my high beam working!

Thanks Guys I will give it a try tomorrow. 80 series candles are enough of a joke, but no high beam is crazy
