Best bang for buck all terrain?

Just wondering what people think would be the best style of all terrain in the 33x12.5x15 or maybe 35x12.5x15 range. 33's may make me rev too hard on the highway due to 4.6 diffs?

Cost vs life, performance, noise etc.

Was thinking between mickey thompson, pro comp, bfg, and maybe cooper? Only want all terrain as will only be for street and beach duties

Any other ones around. Cheaper the better prolly I want to get a set for street duties then I can get a set of 37's for offroad only use.

Look at Kellys...

May not be the best or most liked tyre, but cheap and has larger sizes available.

Just another to add to the list to compare $$$.

Had a set ages ago on a hilux and they where good. Just the all terrain ones cant remember what they are called.

I think the Kelly AT's are called Safari AWR's. I used to have them on a Hilux too, a couple of years ago

I've got the Cooper A/T's and reckon they're excellent for on road use. Soft riding, very quiet and very high grip levels.

Probably far from the cheapest though..

Roothy does run Mickey T's, but they're not Claws - they're a rather generic looking block pattern.

I just got back from a 700km round trip with the MT/Rs, and was pleasantly surprised. They're nowhere near as noisy at highway speeds as I expected (probably about even with the S/Ts I had) and the "4WD track" was driven in 2WD - traction in 2WD at 20psi was never a problem.

If cost is a more important factor consider the Silverstone A/Ts - they look similar to the BFG pattern, and they grip pretty well in loose stuff. Not sure about mud or longevity.

thanks for all that fellas. And Tom I know the ones you are talking about and had them in mind with my original post.
I don't think they will be all that cheap though now I think about it.

Might give the kelly's a look or even a hankook or something.

Really don't care about offroad as they will only mainly be for onroad.

Roothy runs Micky Thomson MTX,I think.
I had two sets of BFG AT and was very happy with them.
Now I run Good Year MT/R and am happy with them couse they are only tyres that I have(no second set of agresive tyres yet)

MT/R's wear quicker than BFG AT,but are better offroad and aren't to noisy,although noisier than BFG AT

I would steer clear of both hankook and kumho, my personal experience has been they are either not round from the start or soon become that way, not good if you want a nice road ride.

The sidewalls of the hankooks i had, 235/85/16 rt01 mud 6 ply, were about half the thickness of bfg at ko's, so dont expect much from them for sidewall strength.

Have had bad experience with aussie made desert duellers too, in terms of roundness and balance issues, their jap made at's and duellers are a much better tyre, but more expensive.

If your just doing beach and road, a secondhand set of bfg at's are fairly easy to come by in 33's for reasonable prices?

I've always had a hankering for the Dunlop Radial Rover RT, a tad bit more aggressive than the BFG perhaps, but still highly streetable. Might be a tad much for sand duty actually. If they came in a 32x11.50-15, I might have a set.

Recently discovered the Continental Sportiva AT. Looks a heck of a lot like the BFG AT, but priced much cheaper. Might be worth looking into, but I don't know that it's sold in Australia (hard enough to find here actually).

The Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo is getting very favorable feedback, a bit less aggressive than the BFGs with a bit better street performance.

Yes, a lot of those tyres we don't get over here. When I was researching A/T's Bridgestone USA had some nice looking tyres (the Revo was one I think?)- but I was not able to get them here.

I used to have the cooper st's on a 75 series. They were pretty good.
A little louder than the bfg a/t but prolly not quite as loud as goodyear mtr.

They are still really an all terrain. They lasted very well, I think I sold em with about 30 thousand km on em and they had hardly worn at all.

Wouldn't know how they compare price wise anymore.

Had them in 31s on the Paj. Very happy with them, after 30k km they are well under half worn. Will consider them again next time.

Pirelli Scorpion AT?

Had em on the truck for years (5+), and they lasted easy 80k+ km.

Went ok offroad too all things considered.

Dont know how much they are worth now though? Middle of the road pricing Id imagine.

*EDIT* Dont know if they do 33's, or 35's though.

are you looking for a cheap tire our one that will last i use to run procomp muds which i got 80000 km out off them and a bloke in my club is runing the at's and he is pushing over 80000km with 1/4 off tread left so they wear very well but you will have to sell your truck to get then and they are very good on road they stick like shit to blacket
