Electric windows

Rock, it's so cool opening all four windows from the driver's seat!

GQ electric windows

Post by chimpboy »

I've got manual windows. I think I can probably pick up the bits to make electric windows fairly cheaply - there are lots of wrecks around these days - but I'm not sure how badly I want the upgrade.

The GQs I've sat in with electric windows have noticeably less legroom, and it sort of bugs me. And I use the A/C almost constantly so I rarely open the windows. However, maybe I would change my habits if I had electric ones!

What do you reckon?

Winders are the only wat to go, or you could cut the doors down and remove the windows all together. :D

What's wrong with it? This shit is usually fixable.

Put the windows controls in the centre console and that will solve you're legroom problem in the front.

Really..? I just assumed that the motor was in that lumpy bit as well...

Where does the motor live?

Sounds like a good plan to get some space. What about holes in the door afterwards from removing those silly boxes?

Your right, it does live in there, but maybe you could make a smaller box to go around it. And yeah, it pisses me off sometimes as well.

Yeah took mine apart today for another reason (speakers)

The motors hang out a bit but nowhere near as much as the lumps do.

:D you will find the switch on the drivers door will have dirty contacts if the drivers door his crook the left hand door switch wont work .
if you want to see if it's the motor the back one will fit the front door .
try some crc electra clean or even just plan old crc spray around and in under the rocker switchs as they fill up with dirt ect .
you can pull the switch apart but do it were you wont drop anything ,i spent a week trying to fix the left window just to find it was a dirty cntact in the drivers side switch the left switch didn't work but the drivers side did it has a contact to make power to the left switch when the right side is in the off position very frustrating :bad-words:

Nah - the switches work and the motor spins but the window does not go up or down :?

Pulled it apart and (this is the technical bit   ) the bit that spins inside the winder (metal splines) has stripped the plastic grooves. I have been told to replcae this bit. But everywhere I go says, I have to buy the complete window setup

I have aftermarket electric windows, with all the controls in the centre console. They have little black blastic covers covering the holes in the door skin where the window winder was - doesnt look bad at all

And electric windows rock!

6" in doors adn 6" in rear barn doors. They're slightly underpowered for the amp (but still rated 5 times what the factory ones were) but that's cool I'm not THAT hugely into my stereo in the car. I think 120W rms should be enough.

One good thing about that pod for the windows is it means the por for the big front speakers isnt an issue :D
