If you reverse the pitman Arm on an 80series box and fit it to a hilux you would have to turn the steering wheel left if you wanted to turn right.

Just get an IFS Hilux box.

1 thery

Post by HUNTERLUX »

the only reason i was going to try & fit it was because i v got 1 kickin around & the thery behind reversing the pity arm was insted of pushing it would be pullin because on an 80s to turn left the arm cames out of the front & pushes front of the hub left so if i was to reverse it & face it to the back of the car it would pull back of the hub right therfore tur the car left that was the thery i was told

Yep thats the way i understood what you were saying. And if you do this you turn the wheel left your going to turn right.

On an 80series the steering link from the box to the axle runs in front of the axle just like it does on a hilux Xover conversion so if you flip the arm 180 its going to work backwards.

Thats wat i thought. that way your pitman arm wouldn't hit your spring pack under full compression. you would have to shorten your steering column though.

I dont think you could mount the 80 box with the arm pointing forward. You would have to lean it back too far to clear the spring and then the column wouldnt connect with it.

i think it will work i plan on using a 60 series box with forward facing pitman arm on my next setup, and its easy 2 get the column 2 line up just cut the firwall out a bit and use the unis thaty r already on the shaft it will work 4 sure

Well, I went ahead and bought one b4 I realised half the front end of the truck would need reworking to fit it up.

But if you were building a truck from scratch it could be done. There wouldn't be a great deal of advantage to gain as far as I can see, other than you could compress the guts out of your leafs.
