have just put a weber on my 1.3 WT zook and want to know what ppl have done for the air cleaner. was thinking of using a stock escort / cortina aircleaner with out the filter and connect the inlet tube to the stock zook filter.

I ran one of these carbs many years ago on a 1.8 toyo motor in a Zuk. Had the right diameter pipe bent up and ran it straight off the top of the carb with a smooth right angle bend to a pre cleaner taken off of a Patrol ( I think ), then out to the snorkel.

the car runs but is idling a bit high (1500) on my first test drive (no aircleaner ) i thought i was in a different car. started having flashbacks to my old escort days. the induction noise is horny. it has almost doubled the power and acceleration it used to have. Happy so far. just looking for a fix for the flooding on steep hills. think i found it. will try it and see.

i got the adaptor kit from autobarn. its a LYNX adaptor Part #112 for $38. thinking of getting the propper airfilter adaptor. carby was free. (Used to drive escorts and cortinas.)

A while ago you posted up having problems with fuel consumption and runnin like shiat fouling plugs.. How did ya go with this, did ya fix it (how) before the carby conversion or has the weber changed any of it. I am havin similar problems and have sorted most of it out, but have been thinkin bout a carby swap too as my zook is gutless. (like all of them i guess )

good memory ya got lay80n. yeh i did have probs and i thought it was the carb. but i was only half right. i replaced the carb with the same and still i had probs. it turned out the when the previous owner had engine replaced they messed up all the vac lines. also the engine was out of a swift and some of the sierra emision gear was missing. fixed all that and still it was phuked so i cracked the sads and put the weber on it.

Is there a definate performance change with the carby, have ya tried it on angles at all?? I had the same problem with vac lines, previous owner had taken them off and put them on wrong, that is sorted now though.

acceleration has definately improved but i dont get offroad much at the moment havin a baby and all that. will go for a bit of a drive this weekend and see how it goes on the hwy and around town.

went for a drive after work tonight and i must say WOO HOO. If ya know melb at all then this will make sense.
Igot on to the southeastern FWY at Stud Rd heading towards melb and i accelerated up to 110km/h before getting to the top of the hill in 4th gear. now i dont have any rockhoppers or any of that gearing stuff and im running 31 inch muds. and i can quite happily cruise at 100 in 5th. only dropping back to 4th for the hills. before i would struggle to hold 90km/h on the flat and 70km/h up the hills and was using 3rd alot too.
Now remember i havent as yet had the carby reco'd its been sitting at my folks for the last 8years in a box of parts in the garden shed so its prob knackered.

Sounds good, very keen to see what off-road and fule economy is like. What is you engine like internaly, good condition??? what compression etc.
Am thinkin bout this as my mate races escorts in hill climbs and i have done heaps of work on it, so know a bit bout webers and have access to parts and carbys too.

tried to mount it backwards but it wouldnt fit. The water choke kept hitting the PCV connection on the manifold otherwise i woulda done it. i have found some other ways to fix the prob. just gotta get time to do them
