Just about to go on my first trip in the MQ on friday and while checking the fluid levels i noticed the front diff is empty
Before i pour more oil in, im trying to find out where the old oil has gone I do see an oily greasy mix on the bottom of the left hand knuckle flange. Is it possible for the differntial oil to leak out here if the grease seal is shot? I dont actually see an oil seal in my workshop manual diagrams to stop the oil getting to this point?
the Mq's front diff axle seals are right inside the housing, they can only be replaced by removing the front centre. i wouldn't think they are the problem. more like it has been drained and not filled up again. or pinion seal gone or maybe the gasket on the front cover, Also it could be the breather pipe that joins the diff centre to the axle tube. Another thing could be someone has had it appart and not put seals back in (not likely)
From experiance, the most common place for it to leak is out the front diff centre gasket.
Though if the inner seals are gone it can leak out the wiper knuckle seals ( the ones u described as being grease seals, the really big ones )
screwy
