Turbo Conversion Cost?

Post by Begbie »

Anyone got any idea how much it would cost to have a trubo fitted to a 96 hilux 2.8D ? As in drop off to the shop and collect all installed and running beautifully?

Preferably using average gear rather than full on performance/racing gear - and preferably wihtout [pullin g the engine down.

The motor has done 150kms so far.

from last time i checked turboglide was charging $2000 - $2500 for a full install including dyno tune before the turbo then install and another tune of the dno afterwoods
that included muffler etc etc
think it was a 1 day job

2.8L Hilux Turbo fit & set up $3280 incl GST
Fuel Injection service $750 (less $150 if done at time of turbo)

That was what I was Quoted by Berrima Diesel but take into account you must also get the vehicle engineered after fitting the Turbo. This info came from a post i did and have rang the RTA and since turbo gives a power increase above 15%

Surely you dont have toi get engineers if your car model had come with turbo? Wouldnt your rule apply only if that mjodel didnt come with a turbop on any version?

i believe that only applies if you use the 'factory turbo' not an aftermarket.

the turbo people at browns plains near ARB southside quoted me close to $5K.

this was for turbo, new injectors, new exhaust, bigger feul pump and a few other things. i think it was an all day affair. i couldn't justify spending that much. your call though
indubitably

I had mine done for 1600, with a second hand turbo out of a 2.4, that came with a 12 mth warranty and blows the doors of others that have been done by the jokers at turbo(rip off)glide   and never heard of it having to be engineered, all I did was tell my insurer I had put a turbo on it, and they were sweet, never heard of it having to be engineered.

most insurance companies don't care about aftermarket turbos fitted to deisels when you tell them, but technically anything that provides greater than 10% power increase requires an engineers certificate {this applies in vic} unless you use a factory offered setup that came out in your year model. just because a gu came out as 4.2 turbo doesn't mean it's ok to do it to a gq. end of the day it's up to you. go the turbo. had a 2.4 factory turbo in a hilux and it pumped 2.8's {nothing to brag about i know}.
